In short

Banglabandha Zero Point marks the north-western tip of Bangladesh in Tetulia, Panchagarh, about 57 km north of Panchagarh town, where a land port faces Phulbari in India with Siliguri a short way beyond. The port handles trade with several neighbouring countries. Visiting the zero point is free, and about an hour covers the border area.

Banglabandha lies at the northwestern tip of Bangladesh in Tetulia Upazila, Panchagarh district, about 57 kilometres north of Panchagarh town. The zero point is the spot on the border where Bangladesh meets India, with the Indian town of Phulbari on the other side and Siliguri only a short distance beyond.

Trade link with India, Nepal and Bhutan since 2004

Banglabandha first served as a land customs station. The government developed it into a land port, formally opened in May 2004, to build trade with India, Nepal and Bhutan. The three neighbours are separated here only by the narrow Siliguri Corridor of Indian territory. Vehicle crossings between Banglabandha and Phulbari began in January 2011.

Boundary markers, border trucks and Kangchenjunga views

For visitors, the zero point is a landmark more than a sight in itself. People come to stand at the northernmost point of the country, watch the trucks and border guards, and take photographs by the boundary markers. On clear days the snow peaks of Kangchenjunga can be seen on the northern horizon from the plains and tea gardens of Tetulia.

Darjeeling lies about 58 kilometres to the north in India. Tetulia is known for its tea estates, and orange and pineapple are also grown in the area.
