Danieli, Venezia, A Four Seasons Hotel is a five-star hotel on the Riva degli Schiavoni in Venice, the waterfront promenade beside St Mark's Basin. It faces the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, sits about 210 m from Piazza San Marco and 110 m from the Bridge of Sighs, and suits travellers who want a historic palazzo on the lagoon with St Mark's on foot.
The Danieli has taken guests since 1822, and Charles Dickens and Richard Wagner both stayed here. It reopened under Four Seasons on 30 July 2026 after an extensive restoration. Pierre-Yves Rochon redesigned two buildings: Palazzo Dandolo, built by the Dandolo family in the late Middle Ages and a landmark of Venetian Gothic, and Palazzo Casa Nuova, which once held the Treasury of the Venetian Republic. The lobby keeps its hand-painted gilded ceiling and grand staircase, now set off by Murano glass, terrazzo floors and Rubelli fabrics. A third building, Palazzo Danieli Excelsior, is due to reopen in 2027.
The hotel reopened with 120 rooms and suites, 52 of them suites, looking over the lagoon, the canals or the city rooftops. Superior rooms measure 22 to 27 m². Above them come Deluxe, Premium and Premium Lagoon-View rooms, then Dandolo, Lagoon-View and Signature suites, a Presidential Suite and the 148 m² Doge Dandolo Royal Suite. Each room has a media wall, automated curtains, preset lighting scenes and its own climate control. Wi-Fi is free in rooms and public areas.
Restaurant Terrazza Danieli is on the roof, where Executive Chef Adriano Rausa cooks contemporary Italian food with Venetian touches and the tables look across the lagoon. Breakfast is a buffet. Bar Dandolo, just off the lobby, serves coffee and tea through the day and cocktails later on. The Danieli Spa is scheduled to open in late 2026 with three treatment rooms, one of them for couples, plus a sauna and a hammam.
Most guests arrive by boat. The Danieli gondola station is about 15 m from the entrance, and Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) is about 7.9 km away across the lagoon.
Giuseppe Dal Niel, whom Venetians nicknamed Danieli, rented the first floor of Palazzo Dandolo on 24 October 1822 to take paying guests. Business went well enough that he bought the whole palazzo in 1824, restored it and named the hotel after his nickname. John Ruskin stayed while writing The Stones of Venice, and George Sand and Alfred de Musset shared Room 10.
