Foy's Lake (ফয়'স লেক)

Foy's Lake is a man-made lake from 1924 in the hills of Pahartali, north-west Chattogram, Bangladesh, now home to the Foy's Lake Concord amusement park, a water park and a lakeside resort. It sits beside Chittagong Zoo and suits families and groups looking for boat rides and rides in one ticketed area.

Dammed in 1924 for the Pahartali railway colony

Railway engineers dammed a stream flowing down from the northern hills in 1924 to supply water to the railway colony at Pahartali. The lake is named after Mr Foy, the engineer credited with the project. Pahartali grew as a railway town and still has carriage and diesel workshops, a loco shed, stores, an electrical workshop and a school founded in 1924. The land still belongs to Bangladesh Railway.

Narrow arms of water, boats and floating restaurants

The water winds between steep green hills in long narrow arms. Boat rides are one of the main pleasures of a visit, and floating restaurants sit on the water.

Concord's amusement park on railway land

Since November 2004 Concord Entertainment, part of the Concord Group, has run Foy's Lake Concord Amusement World on about 320 acres of railway land under a 50-year build-operate-transfer agreement. Its gate faces away from the University of Science and Technology Chittagong. The dry park has a family roller coaster, bumper cars, a Ferris wheel, a carousel and a haunted house. Sea World, added in 2007, has a wave pool, a water coaster and children's pools. Foy's Lake Resort rents lakeside cottages and chalets. Concord also runs Fantasy Kingdom near Dhaka.
