Ferry and bike
Take the ferry from La Tour Fondue on the Giens peninsula and cycle to the beach.
On the north coast of Porquerolles, the largest of the Îles d'Hyères, Plage d'Argent is a white-sand family beach with a lifeguard, about 30 minutes on foot from the port. The beach itself is free and open at all times, so the last ferry back sets the end of your visit. Plan a full day including the crossing.
Plage d'Argent, the "Silver Beach", is a white-sand beach on the north coast of Porquerolles, the largest of the Îles d'Or off Hyères in the Var. It lies west of the port and village, has the island's only lifeguard post in summer and a restaurant on the sand, and suits families and day-trippers who want one easy, well-served swimming spot.
The sand is fine and pale and the water shallow and turquoise, which is where the name comes from. Lifeguards watch the beach in summer, and none of the island's other beaches is supervised, so this is the place to bring young children. Showers, toilets and sunbed hire are on site. In the 2026 season loungers were rented from 10:00 to 18:00 until 20 September, at €30 each for the day according to the Côte d'Azur tourism listing.
The restaurant, La Plage d'Argent, sits on a wooden deck above the beach and specialises in wild-caught fish. It opened from 11 April to 1 October in 2026, closed on Mondays. In July and August it runs sunset aperitifs with tapas on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings. Booking by phone is advised in high summer.
Porquerolles covers about 1,254 hectares. The village was founded in 1820, the lighthouse built in 1837 and the church in 1850. In 1912 the Belgian businessman François Joseph Fournier bought the whole island as a gift for his wife and planted around 200 hectares of vines. In 1971 the French state bought about 80 percent of Porquerolles from his heirs to stop development and placed it under the Port-Cros National Park. That purchase is why the track to Plage d'Argent still runs through pine and scrub with no building in sight.
