Snorkel the points
The rocky points at each end are the best places for a mask and snorkel.
Aiguebelle is a small south-facing beach of fine sand about 4 to 5 km east of central Le Lavandou, framed by rocky coves with very clear water, which makes it good for snorkelling and families. The tourist office nicknames it the charmer. There are no gates or set hours on the public sand, and entry is free. Half a day suits a swim and a picnic.
Plage d'Aiguebelle is a small south-facing beach of fine sand in the Aiguebelle district of Le Lavandou, about 4 km east of the town centre in the Var. Rocky coves frame it on both sides, and the water is very clear, so it suits snorkellers and families. The tourist office nicknames it "La Charmeuse".
Aiguebelle is one of the twelve named beaches of Le Lavandou, between La Fossette to the west and Jean Blanc to the east, with the wooded hills of the Massif des Maures behind. Cicadas fill the pines in summer. The seabed near the rocks is uneven, so water shoes help and young children need watching.
Snorkelling is the main reason to come. In the rocky coves you can see fish, octopus, sea urchins and flatfish, so bring a mask and snorkel. Paddleboards and kayaks are popular for trips east or west along the coast to the neighbouring beaches of Jean Blanc, about 750 m away, La Fossette, about 800 m, and l'Éléphant, about 1 km.
Beach restaurants such as Pazzi Plage serve breakfast and lunch in season; breakfast while the sun rises over the sea is a local habit. Deckchairs and beach equipment can be hired. The Hôtel Aiguebelle and several holiday rentals are a short walk from the sand. Outside summer, many places close.
Inland, small waterfalls at La Fossette and the Cascade du Ferrandin, about 1.2 km away, are worth seeing after rain. The Chapelle Saint-Clair lies toward the town.
