Picnic under the pines
Tables set among the trees give shade for a long lunch beside the beach.
Pine woods run down to the fine white sand at l'Estagnol, south of Bormes-les-Mimosas, where shallow clear water suits young children and picnickers. Access is through the private Brégançon estate car park, €13 per car in 2026 (30 March to 12 October), open 8:30 to 19:00 with last entry at 18:45. Families typically stay half a day or a full day.
Plage de l'Estagnol is a sandy beach on the Var coast south of Bormes-les-Mimosas, at 1361 Route de Léoube, on the road toward Cabasson. The sand shelves gently into shallow, clear water, and pine woods run right down to the beach, so it suits families with young children, picnickers and walkers on the coastal path.
The Estagnol sits on private land. It belongs to the Domaine de Brégançon, an estate the same family has kept since 1830, and that ownership explains why no houses, hotels or roads stand behind the sand. The pinewood behind it, the Parc de l'Estagnol, gives natural shade, and picnic tables are set out among the trees. Public toilets, showers and a restaurant serve the site.
Because the land is private, the estate sets its own rules. Animals are not accepted anywhere on the property, car park included, so a dog cannot even wait in the car.
The Estagnol lies on the coastal path between Cabasson and Pellegrin, and walkers who arrive this way do not pass through the paying car park. Parts of the path are rocky, so wear proper shoes and carry water. Outside the car park season the barrier stays shut and the path is the only way in. On days of red fire risk in summer the prefecture can close coastal paths in the Var, so check the daily access map before setting out on foot.
Plage de Cabasson and the Fort de Brégançon, the official summer residence of French presidents, are both about 3 km along the coast. La Londe-les-Maures is 6 km away and the hilltop village of Bormes-les-Mimosas about 12 km. From the sand you look out toward the Îles d'Or, the islands off Hyères. Public transport does not reach the estate, so a car or bike is the practical way to get there. Plan on half a day, or a full day with a picnic in the pines.
