Trang's domestic airport is about 7 km from town, roughly 15 minutes by car, with around five flights a day to Bangkok Don Mueang. Shared taxis and vans meet each flight, and a car with driver is the easiest way to the island piers at Pak Meng or Hat Yao and on to Koh Lanta. It closes overnight.

What to expect
Trang Airport (TST) is a domestic airport at Khok Lo, about 7 km south of Trang town on Thailand's southern Andaman coast, run by the Department of Airports. Thai Lion Air, Thai AirAsia and Nok Air fly from here to Bangkok Don Mueang. Travellers use it for Trang town and as the gateway to Koh Mook, Koh Kradan, Koh Ngai and the other Trang islands, with Koh Lanta reachable by minivan and car ferry.
Seventy years of flying
Trang Airport opened on 13 December 1954, which makes it one of the older airfields in southern Thailand. For decades it was a quiet regional stop; it handled about 143,000 passengers in 2009. Traffic reached almost 800,000 in 2017. In 2024 Trang counted 559,844 passengers, down 0.81 percent, on 3,756 aircraft movements, along with about 153 tonnes of freight.
Trang's new terminal and runway plans, 2025–28: the new domestic passenger terminal opened on 5 September 2025, almost five years late, and all flights now use it. The next stage is a runway extension from 2,100 m to 2,990 m, expected by 2028, which would allow larger aircraft. Older guides describing the previous terminal and its bus stop are out of date.
The new terminal, five years late
A new domestic passenger building opened on 5 September 2025, after almost five years of delays during which the original contractor walked away from the job. A Thai AirAsia flight from Don Mueang was the first to use it. The building cost about 1.07 billion baht, covers more than 30,000 m² and can handle around 1,200 passengers an hour, with parking for about 700 cars. All flights now use it, so older guides describing the previous terminal and its bus stop are out of date.
Inside, expect a modern but simple building with car rental counters, a transfer desk and basic food. There is no airline lounge. The official aeronautical publication lists hotels, restaurants and banks in town, 15 minutes away, and Trang town is the better place to eat.
Runway length, planned extension and hours
The runway, 08/26, is listed in the aeronautical publication at 2,320 m by 45 m in concrete and asphalt; older sources give 2,100 m. An extension to 2,990 m, which would let wide-body aircraft land, is expected by 2028 after an environmental review. The airfield is about 20 m above sea level and has Category 7 fire cover.
The aerodrome's published hours are 06:00 to 20:00 local time. Trang is a daytime airport with around five departures a day, and the terminal is staffed around that schedule, so do not plan to wait there overnight.
Three airlines on the Don Mueang route
All scheduled flights go to Bangkok Don Mueang. Thai Lion Air, Thai AirAsia and Nok Air share the route with about five departures a day between them. There is no service to Suvarnabhumi and no international flight; customs and immigration are available on request only. Long-haul passengers connect in Bangkok, or fly into Hat Yai or Krabi, which have wider networks, and drive from there.
Piers for Koh Mook, Koh Kradan and Koh Lanta
The piers at Pak Meng and Hat Yao, for boats to Koh Mook, Koh Kradan and Koh Ngai, are within an hour's drive. A car with a driver booked on bookingMentor meets you in arrivals and is the surest way to make an afternoon boat. For Koh Lanta, operators such as Lanta Minivan run from the airport to island hotels, crossing on the car ferry, for ฿400 to ฿600 and about 2.5 to 3 hours. Book ahead in high season.
Trang province has 46 islands. Koh Kradan is known for its clear water, and Mu Ko Phetra National Park protects part of the southern coast. Pak Meng beach, the province's best-known, lies within Hat Chao Mai National Park, which covers 231 km².
Trang's breakfast dim sum and roast pork
Trang has a reputation across Thailand for its food. Breakfast is a local institution, with dim sum served at traditional coffee shops, and the town is known for mu yang, crisp roast pork, and Trang cake. Thailand's first rubber trees were planted here in 1899, brought from British Malaya. Every year since 1996, usually around Valentine's Day, couples marry in an underwater wedding ceremony off the Trang coast.
Allowing for boat delays from the islands
Arrive an hour to 90 minutes before your flight. If you are coming back from the islands, plan the boat and road transfer with a generous buffer, because sea conditions affect boat times during the May to October monsoon.
Landside and airside
At Trang, landside is the public check-in and arrivals area where the transfer desk and car rental counters are. Airside is the gate area after security. As every flight is domestic there is no passport control.

Security & safety
Trang is a small, calm airport. The practical risks are missed boats and unclear transfer prices.
1Agree prices firstShared taxis often charge per person. Check whether the quoted price is per seat or for the whole vehicle.
2Watch the boat clockBoats to Koh Mook, Kradan and Ngai stop in the afternoon and may not run in rough monsoon seas. Late arrivals should plan a night in town or at Pak Meng.
3Do not depend on the busThe local bus is cheap but irregular, and older guides describe a stop that predates the new terminal.
Pro tip: if your island boat leaves in the afternoon, take the morning flight from Don Mueang. The midday arrivals leave little margin for the drive to Pak Meng or Hat Yao.
