Juneyao Air (IATA HO) is a privately owned Chinese airline based in Shanghai, with hubs at both Shanghai Pudong and Shanghai Hongqiao. It flies a wide domestic network and international routes to East and Southeast Asia, Europe and Australia, and it suits travellers who want a Star Alliance-linked connection into China with Boeing 787 long-haul service.
The airline was founded in 2005 and began flying on 25 September 2006. Its Chinese name, Jixiang Hangkong, means Auspicious Airlines. It belongs to the Shanghai-based Juneyao Group and has been listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (603885) since May 2015. The head office is in Pudong. The parent group moved into the car industry in 2023 with JuneYao Auto.
Juneyao took delivery of its first Boeing 787 in October 2018. In June 2019 it opened a Shanghai to Helsinki route, described as the first intercontinental wide-body route by a private Chinese airline. The pandemic pushed it into the red, with a loss of CNY 749 million for 2020.
Shanghai Pudong and Shanghai Hongqiao are the hubs, and Beijing Daxing and Nanjing are secondary hubs. The airline reported more than 220 destinations and 260 routes in May 2026. The international network covers Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Europe and Australia.
Juneyao runs a joint venture with Finnair, which links Shanghai and Helsinki and connects to Finnair's European network. Its low-cost subsidiary, 9 Air, started flying in January 2015.
Juneyao became a Star Alliance Connecting Partner on 23 May 2017. This status links it with selected Star Alliance member airlines for connections, but Juneyao is not a full alliance member.
The airline's global website sells tickets in English and other languages, so international travellers can book directly.
Travel tip: Pudong and Hongqiao are separate airports about an hour apart by road. When connecting in Shanghai, check that both flights use the same airport, or leave several hours for the transfer. Check the baggage allowance for your fare on the Juneyao Air website before you travel.
