Shanghai to Bangkok flight guide
A number of airlines fly nonstop from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) to Bangkok, six to Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and two to Don Mueang (DMK). The 2,896 km flight takes about 4 hours 5 minutes. It is one of the busiest routes between China and Thailand, popular with holidaymakers from eastern China and with travellers using Bangkok as a stop on the way to South Asia.
Pudong lies about 30 km east of central Shanghai and handled almost 85 million passengers in 2025. Metro Line 2 serves both terminals, and the Maglev runs from Longyang Road to the airport in about eight minutes. Some gates are in the south satellite concourse, reached from Terminals 1 and 2 by an underground people mover, so allow time after security.
China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines have their main hub at Pudong, and Juneyao Air and Spring Airlines are based there too. Thai Airways International and Thai VietJet Air also fly to Suvarnabhumi, and Air China resumes on 26 October 2026. Spring Airlines, Thai VietJet Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air charge for checked bags, meals and seat choice; the full-service airlines include more in the fare.
Suvarnabhumi is about 25 km east of central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain, and Makkasan connects to the MRT Blue Line. Bus S1 runs to Sanam Luang, near the Grand Palace, for 60 baht between 06:00 and 17:00. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals.
Don Mueang is Bangkok's first airport, opened in 1914 in the north of the city. International flights use Terminal 1. The SRT Dark Red Line stops there, and bus A4 runs to Khaosan Road for 50 baht.
Thai entry rules depend on nationality; see our Thailand visa page. Every foreign visitor completes the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing.
The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways all leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). Landing at Don Mueang means crossing the city and checking in again. Airports of Thailand runs a free shuttle bus between the two airports for passengers with an air ticket.
Clocks go back one hour on landing in Thailand (UTC+7). Neither country uses daylight saving.

Getting there
Flights land at both Bangkok airports: several airlines at Suvarnabhumi, and Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air at Don Mueang. Air China resumes 26 October 2026. Schedules change by season, so check the flights for your dates in the search above.
About 4 hours 5 minutes in the air. The two airports are 2,896 km apart in a straight line; actual times vary a little by airline, aircraft and wind.
Both. Various airlines use Suvarnabhumi (BKK); two use Don Mueang (DMK). The airports are on opposite sides of the city, so check the code on your ticket.
Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain there; Makkasan station connects to the MRT Blue Line. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals. Don Mueang is north of the city. The SRT Dark Red Line stops at the airport and runs to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (Bang Sue), where it meets the MRT Blue Line; airport buses and metered taxis cover the rest of the city.
Yes. Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways fly Bangkok to Dhaka from Suvarnabhumi. If you land at Don Mueang, allow at least four hours to transfer by road and check in again. On separate tickets you clear Thai immigration and collect your bag, so you need a Thai visa. See Bangkok to Dhaka flights.
The Shanghai Maglev runs to Longyang Road in about eight minutes; from there, Metro Line 2 continues into the centre.
Pudong has two main terminals. Your ticket shows the terminal; check it before you set off, as the two are a walk or shuttle apart.
General
The clock moves one hour back on landing in Thailand (Thailand is UTC+7). Neither side uses daylight saving, so the gap stays the same all year.
A passport that meets Thailand's entry rules for your nationality, plus the Thailand Digital Arrival Card, which every foreign visitor completes within 72 hours before landing. Check whether you need a visa on our Thailand visa page.
What's included
It depends on the airline. Spring Airlines, Thai VietJet Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air are low-cost carriers whose basic fares include only a cabin bag, so add checked baggage when you book. The full-service airlines normally include a checked bag; the allowance is shown on your booking.
Cancellations & changes
Air China resumes 26 October 2026. Airlines publish these changes in advance, but dates can move, so check the schedule before you book.
Stay & facilities
On the full-service airlines, request a Muslim (halal) meal when you book or at least 24 hours before departure through the airline's manage-booking page. On Spring Airlines, Thai VietJet Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air, meals are bought online or on board; check the menu for halal options.
