Harinhata walk
Forest trail to the beach.
At the southern tip of Patharghata in Barguna, between the Bishkhali and Baleshwar rivers, Laldia is a small beach on the edge of a coastal mangrove forest, with red crabs and a winter dried-fish camp. Access is free, and daylight visits are advised; return before the last boat. Plan a full day.
Laldia Forest and Sea Beach is a mangrove forest and small beach at the southern tip of Patharghata upazila, Barguna district, Bangladesh, where the Bishkhali and Baleshwar rivers meet the Bay of Bengal. It suits nature lovers who want an undeveloped shore, red crabs and birdsong on a full-day trip.
The land narrows here between the Bishkhali to the east and the Baleshwar to the west. Across the Baleshwar lies the Sundarbans, and Laldia's forest belongs to the same mangrove belt. It is a protected coastal area linked to the Harinhata eco-park. Local authorities have talked of developing the beach for tourism, but it remains wild.
The beach is a short strip of sand on the eastern edge of the forest. It is quiet, with gulls overhead and red crabs scattering into their burrows as you approach. Behind it grow keora, gewa and other mangrove trees.
Fish drying is common along the Barguna coast from about Kartik to mid-Falgun, roughly late October to early March. Fish are laid on bamboo platforms raised five to six feet above the sand, and fishing camps appear near Laldia in season. Outside that period the shore is almost empty.
