Sunset
Over the river mouth.
At Nalbunia in Taltali upazila, Barguna, Shuvo Sondha is a quiet beach where three rivers meet the Bay of Bengal, backed by casuarina forest near the Tengragiri mangroves. Entry is free and open, but come in daylight and return before the last boat. Half a day is typical.
Shuvo Sondha Sea Beach is a 4 km casuarina-backed beach at Nalbunia, Nishanbaria union, Taltali upazila, Barguna district, Bangladesh, about 15 km from Taltali town. It suits travellers who want a quiet sunset shore and mangrove forest without the crowds of Kuakata.
The beach sits on a char where the Payra, Bishkhali and Baleshwar rivers reach the Bay of Bengal, so sea, river mouths and mangroves meet here. About 4 to 4.5 km of sand is backed by a belt of planted casuarina trees.
The beach is named after Badruddoza Shuvo, a former upazila nirbahi officer of Taltali who promoted it as a tourist spot. Shuvo Sondha also means good evening in Bengali, which suits a place known for its sunsets.
Next to the beach lies Tengragiri, part of the Fatrar Char mangrove forest, one of the larger mangrove areas outside the Sundarbans. The Forest Department's eco-park there, Sonakata, has enclosures with deer, wild boar and crocodiles, though its facilities have suffered from poor upkeep. Birds are plentiful in the forest.
