What to expect
Air Premia is a South Korean airline that describes itself as a hybrid carrier: cheaper than a full-service airline, with more included than a typical budget one. It was founded in July 2017 by Kim Jong-chul, a former president of Jeju Air, and operated its first flight, Seoul to Jeju, on 11 August 2021. Everything runs from Seoul Incheon, using a single aircraft type, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Tire Bank Group became its majority shareholder in 2025.
Bangkok was one of the first international cities on its map, served since March 2022. Air Premia's Thai route is Seoul Incheon to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, flown with the same wide-body jets it sends across the Pacific. That means a two-cabin layout and seat-back space that are uncommon on a Korea to Thailand fare in this price range. Compare departures on Seoul to Bangkok flights and Bangkok to Seoul flights.
The long-haul network is the core of the business: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Newark, Honolulu and, since April 2026, Washington Dulles. In Asia it also serves Tokyo Narita, Hong Kong and Da Nang, with Ho Chi Minh City listed to resume on 5 November 2026 and Sapporo due from 2 December 2026.
In October 2023 Air Premia began flying between Incheon and Dhaka, aimed largely at migrant workers and cargo, but the schedule was soon cut back and current timetables do not confirm a regular service. For Korea from South Asia, Korean Air and Asiana Airlines connections, or Air Premia from Bangkok (see Dhaka to Bangkok), are the dependable options.
How did Air Premia get off the ground?
Air Premia was founded on 27 July 2017 by Kim Jong-chul. In April 2019 it planned to start in 2020 with three Boeing 787-9s leased from Air Lease Corporation, later raised to five, but the pandemic pushed the launch back. The first 787-9 arrived in April 2021, and the first flight on 11 August 2021 was a domestic hop from Seoul to Jeju. Domestic flying ended on 30 October 2021, when the airline switched to international routes only. The codes are YP (IATA) and APZ (ICAO), and the chief executive is Yoo Myung-sub.
Routes tried and dropped
The young network has changed often. Singapore ran from December 2021 to October 2023, Ankara for a few months in 2022 and Frankfurt from June to December 2023. Honolulu started on 11 December 2023, paused in March 2024 and came back on 2 July 2025. Dhaka, Oslo and Barcelona have been flown as charters only. About a dozen destinations are on the current map.

Air Premia flies nine Boeing 787-9s. Most carry 309 seats: 56 in Premia 42, the premium economy cabin in a 2-3-2 layout with 42 inches of seat pitch, and 253 in Economy 35, laid out 3-3-3 with 35 inches. Other aircraft have 320, 326 or 344 seats. Meals, entertainment and baggage are included on the standard fares, and Wi-Fi and duty-free are sold on board.

General
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which is the only type in its fleet. Every Bangkok flight therefore has both a Wide Premium and an Economy cabin.
Wide Premium is Air Premia's premium economy cabin. Seats are arranged 2-3-2 with a minimum pitch of 42 inches, which is where the old name Premia 42 came from. It is a recliner seat, not a lie-flat bed.
Economy is laid out 3-3-3 with around 35 inches of seat pitch, a little more than many airlines offer in their standard economy. The airline marketed it as Economy 35 for that reason.
On routes outside the Americas, a regular Economy ticket includes one piece of 23 kg and a Light fare includes 15 kg. Wide Premium Standard and Flex fares include 32 kg.
