Flying from Dhaka to Bangkok

In short

A number of airlines fly nonstop from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC) to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok (BKK): Thai Airways International, Biman Bangladesh Airlines and US-Bangla Airlines. The 1,568 km flight takes about 2 hours 30 minutes, and it suits patients heading to Bangkok's private hospitals, shoppers and holidaymakers alike.

Thai Airways or Biman, and the aircraft each uses

Thai Airways International is the only full-service foreign carrier on the route, and its aircraft change with the season: a Boeing 787-8 or Airbus A330-300 on some days, an Airbus A321neo or A320 on others. Biman flies a Boeing 737-800 with a small business cabin of 12 seats. US-Bangla runs a daily nonstop too. Each lists 30 kg of checked baggage with 7 kg in the cabin, so the decision usually comes down to departure time and fare.

A Thai ticket also has a practical advantage for anyone travelling further. Suvarnabhumi is Thai Airways' main base, so one booking can carry you on to Chiang Mai, Phuket or other Thai cities with your bag checked through.

Thai visas and the Digital Arrival Card

Thailand's visa rules depend on your nationality. Travellers who need a visa apply through the Thai e-Visa system online, which the embassy in Dhaka moved to in January 2025. Every foreign visitor, visa or not, must also complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing and show its QR code at immigration.

Airport Rail Link or a metered taxi from Suvarnabhumi

Suvarnabhumi lies east of the city. The Airport Rail Link covers the 28.6 km to Phaya Thai, where it meets the BTS Skytrain, and Makkasan station on the same line connects on foot with the MRT Blue Line. With heavy bags or a patient in the group, a metered taxi or a Grab car from the arrivals level is easier.

Flying back, give yourself time at the airport. It handled almost 63 million passengers in 2025, and some departures leave from the SAT-1 satellite building, reached by an underground train after security.

All the nonstops use Suvarnabhumi. Don Mueang is Bangkok's older airport, reopened in 2007 for domestic flights. Check the code on any separate onward ticket before you plan a tight connection.
