In short

About 40 km north of Dhaka in the sal forest of Gazipur, the 3,810-acre Gazipur Safari Park lets visitors see tigers, lions and other animals from buses in large open enclosures. Entry is paid. Families should plan a full day. Bring water and snacks for the day.

Gazipur Safari Park lies about 40 kilometres north of Dhaka, close to the Dhaka to Mymensingh Highway. It covers 3,810 acres of sal forest and is one of the largest safari parks in Asia. It opened on 31 October 2013.

Renamed and reopened in November 2024

The park was originally named after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Following the political change in Bangladesh in 2024, the name was dropped and the park reopened to visitors on 15 November 2024 as Gazipur Safari Park.

Core Safari bus zone and the other five sections

The park is divided into six sections: the Core Safari, Safari Kingdom, the Biodiversity Park, the Extensive Asian Safari Park, a central square and a children's park. In the Core Safari, which covers 1,335 acres, only authorised buses may enter, and visitors watch the animals from the bus in large fenced areas, including an African safari zone.

The park holds about 3,000 animals and birds of 47 species, 28 of them native to Bangladesh. Besides big cats, visitors can see zebras, kangaroos, gharials, birds and butterflies in the other sections.
