Milan Fashion Week guide
Milan Fashion Week suits travellers who want to see the city at its most fashion-minded. The runway shows are invitation-only. The February 2027 womenswear week runs from 23 February to 1 March. Watch shows online, gather outside the venues and book a room near a metro line early.
Milan Fashion Week is the city's turn on the international fashion calendar, the stretch of days when the big Italian houses show their next collections to buyers, editors and clients. It is organised by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, whose forerunner was founded in 1958, and it counts as one of the Big Four alongside New York, London and Paris.
There are four editions a year. Womenswear, Milano Moda Donna, comes in late February and again in September; menswear, Milano Moda Uomo, takes January and June. Each season brings more than 40 shows, staged in palazzi, former industrial halls and the houses' own headquarters across the city.
The shows themselves are for invited guests only. What a visitor gets is the city during that week: crowds and street-style photographers outside the venues, shop windows dressed for the season, livestreams of the shows, and a Milan that is unusually busy, booked up and expensive for a few days.

Hotels near the venue fill up around the event dates.
Show entrances are working doorways with tight timings, so a little courtesy goes a long way.
Milan in late February is cold first thing and mild by mid-afternoon, with long days on foot between venues in different districts.
The Camera releases the official schedule of shows and presentations.
Guests, photographers and onlookers gather at venue entrances before each show.
Many houses stream their show online as it happens.
The week winds down and the focus moves to Paris.
Book a room as soon as the dates are confirmed. The Camera's calendar fixes the week months ahead, and hotels near the centre and in Porta Nuova, Brera and Tortona go first. Staying a metro ride out keeps the cost down without cutting you off from the venues.
Treat the week as a city trip with fashion in the air. Pick two or three houses whose shows you want to watch online, find out where they are held, and plan the rest of the day around the shopping streets and exhibitions. Our Italy travel page covers the rest of the country if you want to add days.
The Camera Sindacale della Moda Italiana was set up on 11 June 1958, the body that became today's Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana. Milan grew into Italy's ready-to-wear capital in the decades that followed, while Florence and Rome had earlier held the spotlight.
The modern week is a gathering of more than 40 shows a season in palaces such as Palazzo Reale and Palazzo Serbelloni and in company headquarters. Giorgio Armani announced in 2013 that he would join the Camera, and Carlo Capasa succeeded Mario Boselli as president in April 2015. The week has had its critics, including a Greenpeace protest in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in 2014 calling for toxic-free fashion.
Milan is served by Malpensa, Linate and, further out, Bergamo. Linate is closest to the centre and linked by the M4 metro line.
Milano Centrale has high-speed services from Rome, Florence, Venice and Turin.
The metro is quicker than taxis during show week, when cars are in short supply.
Brera, the area around Porta Nuova and the Tortona district put you closest to the action, and they are the first to fill and the most expensive.
A hotel near a metro stop further out, such as around Centrale or along the M1, is cheaper and only a short ride from most venues.
Milan
Late February in Milan is cool. The 1991-2020 normals for Milan Linate give February an average high of 10.0°C and a low of 0.6°C, with 38.2 mm of rain on about 4.5 days.
Mornings can be near freezing and fog is possible; afternoons are often bright and mild enough for a light coat.
Met at arrivals at Milan Linate Airport (LIN) and driven door to door to Venues across central Milan.

Booking
No. Runway shows are invitation-only and invitations go to buyers, press, clients and people the brands want in the room. There is no public ticket sale for the shows themselves, and anyone offering one should be treated with suspicion.
Figures quoted for 2021 put it at about 30,000 attendees and visitors, with average spending of around €1,902 per visitor. Post-pandemic editions are generally larger, but no official comparable figure is published each season.
General
Watch from outside. Crowds gather at the entrances of the better-known venues to see guests arrive, and street-style photographers work the pavements. Many houses also stream their shows online on the day, so you can watch the collection and then walk past the venue.
The Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, a non-profit association of Italian fashion houses. It sets the official calendar, while each brand runs its own show and guest list.
Milano Moda Donna is the womenswear week and is the larger of the two. Milano Moda Uomo is menswear. Some houses show both lines together, so you will occasionally see menswear in a womenswear week and the other way round.
Most of the major ones do, but not always on the official calendar. Dolce & Gabbana, for example, has at times held shows outside the Camera's structure. Gucci made its debut on the Milan Fashion Week schedule in 2022 with a show cast with 68 pairs of twins.
The February week presents autumn/winter collections for the following season, so in 2027 the clothes on the runway are for autumn/winter 2027-2028. The September week shows the next spring/summer.
Only if you want the atmosphere. Hotel rates in the centre climb, restaurants near the showrooms fill up and taxis are harder to find. If fashion is not the reason for your trip, the weeks either side are calmer and cheaper.
Yes, and this is the most reliable way to see couture-level work as a visitor. Armani/Silos, Giorgio Armani's own exhibition space in the Tortona district, displays pieces from the house archive and is open to the public outside private events.
Yes, on public pavements, and it is a large part of the week. Keep clear of entrances, do not block arriving guests, and follow any instructions from security staff at the door.
Cancellations & changes
No. In July 2020 it was held in digital form, from 14 to 17 July, because of COVID-19. The shows were presented as films and streams, with no audience.
