Primavera Sound guide
Primavera Sound suits fans of indie, alternative and pop who like late nights. The 25th edition runs from 2 to 6 June 2027 at Parc del Fòrum, with a free opening day on the Wednesday and the main days Thursday to Saturday. Passes went on sale in October 2026; book a bed near metro line L4 early.
Primavera Sound is the music festival that takes over Parc del Fòrum, the concrete esplanade at the north-eastern end of Barcelona's seafront, for a long weekend at the start of every June. It began in 2001 as a showcase for Spanish noise bands and has grown into one of the largest festivals in Europe, with indie and alternative rock still at its core but pop, hip-hop and electronic music now sharing the bill.
The 2027 edition is the festival's 25th anniversary. Doechii, Phoebe Bridgers, Fontaines D.C. and Massive Attack head a line-up that also includes Turnstile, FKA twigs, The Chemical Brothers, Robyn, Pavement and Bad Gyal.
What keeps people coming back is the setting as much as the bookings: big stages facing the Mediterranean, sets that start in daylight and finish after sunrise, and a whole week of concerts spilling into the city's clubs and halls around the main event.

Hotels near the venue fill up around the event dates.
Everything at the gate runs through your phone, so treat it as your ticket.
Parc del Fòrum is hard paving, which changes how you prepare.
Pace the evening. The headline sets start late by northern European standards and the programme continues until dawn, so an afternoon nap is a sound investment.
Primavera a la Ciutat brings shows to venues across Barcelona.
A free afternoon and evening at Fòrum, with registration required.
Stages open in the late afternoon and the headline sets begin late in the evening, with electronic acts carrying on until morning.
Primavera Bits ends the week with a long electronic programme.
Weekend passes for 2027 went on sale on 8 October 2026 through a fan sale, with general sale from 9 October. Buy only through the festival's own ticket channels. Locals should claim the metropolitan-area discount before buying, and everyone should keep the Wednesday free for the opening day, which costs nothing.
Base yourself near the metro line L4, which runs straight to El Maresme | Fòrum station, and book early: early June is high season in the city and hotel prices climb sharply for festival week. The festival was born small. Its first edition, in spring 2001 at the Poble Espanyol, was conceived as a stage for Spanish noise bands. Growth was fast enough that by 2005 it needed Parc del Fòrum, the waterfront site built for the 2004 Universal Forum of Cultures, where it expanded from four to seven stages.
Attendance passed 100,000 in 2010 and reached 220,000 in 2019. After two pandemic cancellations, the two-weekend 2022 edition drew 460,500 people, and the single-week 2025 edition recorded 293,000. In 2023 the beach area at Sant Adrià de Besòs was lost when the bridge linking it to the main grounds could no longer be used, and daily capacity fell from 95,000 to 75,000.
Along the way the festival added a city programme, an industry conference and sister events abroad, but the formula at Fòrum has stayed recognisable: guitar bands, big pop names and electronic acts on stages within sight of the sea.
Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport is the gateway, with trains and the Aerobús into the city centre.
Line L4 (yellow) stops at El Maresme
The Trambesòs T4 runs along Diagonal to the Fòrum stop.
Metro services run all night on Saturdays; on other nights, check the special festival transport the organisers publish, as taxi queues after the last sets are long.
Poblenou and Diagonal Mar are the closest neighbourhoods, a short walk or one or two metro stops from the gates. The Gothic Quarter, El Born and Eixample put you nearer the city's sights, at the cost of a longer ride home on line L4.
Festival week is one of the busiest of the year for Barcelona hotels, so book as soon as you have your pass.
Barcelona
Early June in Barcelona is warm and mostly dry. Climate tables for the city give June an average high of about 26°C and a low of about 20°C, with around 42 mm of rain falling on roughly four days and some 262 hours of sunshine. The sea is close to 20°C.
Expect hot afternoons, mild nights and a breeze on the esplanade after dark. Rain is unusual but a passing storm is not out of the question.

Timing & weather
The opening day at Parc del Fòrum, Wednesday 2 June in 2027, is usually free to the public. You still need to register or collect an invitation through the festival, and capacity is limited, so arrive early if there is a name you particularly want to see.
Primavera Pro, running since 2010, is the festival's conference and networking programme for people working in the music industry. It requires its own accreditation and is separate from a standard festival pass.
Prices & payment
Yes. Residents of the Barcelona metropolitan area can get a weekend pass with 10% off by filling in a form on the festival website and proving where they live.
General
Bits is the festival's electronic music area, and for 2027 it is also the name of the closing party on Sunday 6 June, with Richie Hawtin, Four Tet and Dixon on the bill. It suits anyone who wants to finish the week dancing.
The first edition, on 28 April 2001, took place at the Poble Espanyol, the open-air architectural museum on Montjuïc. Around 7,700 tickets were sold. The festival moved to Parc del Fòrum in 2005, a site roughly seven times larger.
Pablo Soler, Gabriel Ruiz and Sònia Saura founded it in 2001. The same team later took the brand abroad, starting with Porto in 2012.
Yes. The 2020 edition was first moved to August and then cancelled, and the 2021 edition was also called off because of the COVID-19 pandemic. When the festival came back in 2022 it ran over two weekends for the only time, absorbing the bookings from the lost years.
It is the programme of concerts in Barcelona's own venues that runs around the main festival, a tradition that began in 2008. For 2027 the details had not been published by late October 2026. The organisers have said it will run across the whole week.
It was the slogan for the 2019 line-up, the first at a festival of this size to be gender balanced. The idea has shaped the booking policy ever since.
In 2023 a near-identical edition was staged at Arganda del Rey, outside Madrid, a week after Barcelona. It was not repeated in 2024, and Barcelona remains the flagship.
Booking
On your phone. In 2019 Primavera Sound became the first major festival to switch entirely to mobile tickets, so make sure your phone is charged before you queue.
