In short

Locally called Kumira beach, Akilpur is a quiet stretch of coast in Sitakunda's Banshbaria union, about 18 km north of Chattogram city, lined by a two-kilometre storm embankment. Access is free at any time, though daylight visits make transport back easier. One to two hours is enough.

The beach sits in Ward 9 of Banshbaria union, Sitakunda upazila, close to Nimtala village. People in the area often call it Kumira beach, after the nearby bazar and railway station. Its distance of roughly 18 kilometres from Chattogram makes it one of the easier coastal outings north of the port city.

The Kumira coast has long struggled with erosion and tidal surges, and protective works line parts of the shore.

Visitors walk the shoreline and look out over the mudflats toward the Sandwip Channel.

Facilities are simple: little more than a few small shops nearby, and there are no lifeguards. There are no hotels on the shore. Basic lodging exists in Kumira and Sitakunda Sadar, but most visitors stay in Chattogram and come for a few hours, often combining Akilpur with Bashbaria or Guliakhali further up the same coast.

There is no entry fee. Late afternoon toward sunset is the best time, and weekdays are quieter than Fridays. Buses on the Dhaka to Chattogram highway stop at Chhota Kumira Bazar, where a local auto rickshaw covers the last stretch. Allow one to two hours on the beach.
