In short

Jharjhari is a stream trail in Sitakunda that climbs from Panthichila toward Chandranath Hill past a chain of cascades, ending at the fall known as Murti. No fee is known and no hours are published, so start early and be back on the highway before dark. The full trail takes about five hours return.

Jharjhari Waterfall is a stream trail of several falls in the Chandranath hills near Sitakunda, Chattogram district, Bangladesh, starting at Panthichila just north of Sitakunda bazar. It suits walkers who enjoy wading and rock-hopping and can give the best part of a day to the full route.

Starting at Panthichila bazar on the highway

The walk begins at Panthichila bazar on the Dhaka to Chattogram highway and heads east toward Chandranath Hill, whose summit temple, an important Hindu pilgrimage site, appears from several open points along the way. Chattogram-bound buses stop at Panthichila, and local transport runs from Sitakunda town.

Why it is called Jharjhari

Jharjhari, also spelled Jhorjhori, means pattering, after the sound of the water. Local people sometimes call the whole area Murti Jharna, after the last fall on the route. It belongs to a group of Sitakunda stream walks with Komoldoho and Napittachora further north.

Across the railway and up the Kani stream

The first stretch crosses fields and the railway line before joining the Kani stream; reaching it takes around an hour from Panthichila. A narrower side stream then leads into the hills, and the walking turns into wading between steep banks. The main fall, about two hours from the start, is not especially tall, but several cascades drop beside it and the gorge stays shaded and cool.

Shopner Shiri and Murti

Beyond the main fall the trail climbs upstream to a stepped cascade called Shopner Shiri, the stairway of dreams, and ends at Murti, a narrow fall in a rock cleft. Some pools are deep enough to swim and the rock is polished smooth, so non-swimmers should keep to the edges.
