Boalia main fall
Reached in roughly 30–40 minutes up the stream from the dairy farm.
The Boalia trail follows a hill stream in Mirsharai, Chattogram, east of the Dhaka to Chattogram highway, to Boalia waterfall and further falls upstream, with the strongest flow in the monsoon. There is no known fee and no published hours, so start early and be back on the highway before dark. Walkers spend three to four hours on the trail, plus travel time.
The Boalia trail follows a hill stream in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram district, east of the Dhaka to Chattogram highway. Boalia is one of a group of Mirsharai falls, alongside better known names such as Khoiyachhara, Napittachhara and Rupsi, that draw walkers from Chattogram and Dhaka.
Like the other falls in these hills, Boalia is fed by rain. For much of the year the stream carries little water, and the falls come to life in the monsoon, which is when most visitors come.
The walk follows the stream bed through forest, with rock scrambles and repeated crossings. There are no signs on most Mirsharai trails, and paths branch, so a local guide is the safest way to go beyond the first fall.
Rocks in the stream are slippery, and heavy rain can raise the water quickly and turn it muddy, which is the signal to turn back. Leeches are common in the wet months and mobile signal is weak. Walkers have been killed in falls from the hills in this area, so avoid climbing wet rock faces.
There is no ticket for the trail. The monsoon and the weeks after it give the best flow, while winter leaves only a trickle. Start in the morning, carry water and snacks, as there are no shops on the trail, and plan on most of a day. Basic hotels are in Mirsharai and Sitakunda, with more choice in Chattogram city.
