Low-fare flights across Indonesia and from Jakarta to Bangkok Don Mueang, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Dili: routes, fleet, baggage, check-in and tips for Citilink. Ask a question
In short

Citilink is the low-cost airline of the Garuda Indonesia group, based at Soekarno-Hatta in Jakarta. Airbus A320 and ATR aircraft fly domestic Indonesian routes plus Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Dili, a cheaper way between the islands. It has no alliance. Every seat is Economy, with one 7 kg cabin piece that includes your personal item and checked baggage set by fare.

Citilink is the budget carrier of Garuda Indonesia, centred on Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta.

What to expect

Citilink is the low-cost subsidiary of Garuda Indonesia. It started in July 2001 as a budget brand inside the national airline and became a separate company in 2012. Based in Jakarta, it flies mostly within Indonesia, using Soekarno-Hatta and Halim Perdanakusuma in the capital and further bases at Surabaya, Denpasar, Batam, Medan and Makassar.

Thailand joined the map on 12 December 2025, when Citilink opened a daily route from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta to Bangkok Don Mueang, its first service to Thailand. The launch flight, an Airbus A320, arrived full and was welcomed by the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Fares on this corridor are compared on our Jakarta to Bangkok flights and Bangkok to Jakarta flights pages.

Citilink links Jakarta with three of the region's main hubs, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, which makes it a budget onward option after a long-haul arrival there. In Bangkok, most long-haul flights land at Suvarnabhumi while Citilink leaves from Don Mueang, so budget for a cross-city transfer.

The international list is short. Besides Bangkok, it covers Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Dili in Timor-Leste, plus seasonal Jeddah flights for pilgrims. Within Indonesia, it reaches about 40 more airports, several of them on ATR turboprops. That domestic reach is the real strength for visitors: a traveller landing in Jakarta from Bangkok can continue on the same airline to Bali, Surabaya, Medan or Makassar, and a Citilink and Garuda Indonesia codeshare widens the choice further.

From Garuda brand to separate airline

Citilink began on 16 July 2001 as a budget brand of Garuda Indonesia with two Fokker F28s. Garuda suspended it in 2008 and relaunched it in January 2009, and on 30 July 2012 it became a separate subsidiary with its own codes, logo and uniforms; the operator's certificate followed in August 2012. By the end of 2013 it had carried 8 million passengers. Its codes are QG (IATA) and CTV (ICAO), the call sign is SUPERGREEN, and Dewa Kadek Rai is chief executive.

In January 2019 Citilink became the first low-cost airline in Asia-Pacific to offer free in-flight Wi-Fi. A low point came in December 2016, when a passenger video of a pilot said to be drunk on flight 800 spread online; the pilot was dismissed, and the chief executive and operations director resigned. Besides the Garuda codeshare, Citilink has interline deals with Hahn Air and Scoot.

Cheap tickets

Practical habits for a smoother Citilink trip between Indonesia and Thailand.

  1. 01

    Mind the Bangkok airport switch

Most long-haul arrivals land at Suvarnabhumi and Citilink departs Don Mueang. On separate tickets, leave room for immigration, bags and the road transfer.

    Suvarnabhumi vs Don Mueang
  2. 02

Try the Kuala Lumpur or Singapore route

Citilink also serves Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, where a change between airlines usually stays within one airport.

    Single-airport change
  3. 03

    Join LinkMiles first

Add your LinkMiles number when you book so the international sector is credited without a later claim.

  4. 04

    Check the Jakarta airport

Domestic onward flights may use Halim rather than Soekarno-Hatta. Choose connections that stay at CGK.

    CGK or HLP
  5. 05

    Your handbag counts too

Citilink keeps a strict 7 kg cabin limit with no separate personal-item allowance, so a handbag or laptop sleeve is weighed with your main cabin bag.
