Flying from Jakarta to Bangkok

In short

A number of airlines fly nonstop from Soekarno–Hatta International Airport (CGK) in Jakarta to Bangkok. Garuda Indonesia, Thai Airways International and TransNusa land at Suvarnabhumi (BKK); Batik Air, Citilink and Thai Lion Air land at Don Mueang (DMK). The 2,298 km flight takes about 3 hours 20 minutes. Business travellers, holidaymakers and students use it, and Bangkok works well as a stop for anyone heading on to South Asia.

Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta and the airport train from BNI City

Soekarno–Hatta is in Tangerang, about 20 km north-west of Central Jakarta, and handled about 55 million passengers in 2025. International flights use Terminal 3. The airport train from BNI City or Manggarai avoids the toll-road traffic, which can turn a short ride into a two-hour one. Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Citilink and TransNusa all have their hub at the airport.

Bag rules and which Bangkok airport each airline lands at

Garuda Indonesia and Thai Airways International include a checked bag and a meal. TransNusa, Batik Air, Citilink and Thai Lion Air charge for checked baggage. The arrival airport differs too: the Batik Air, Citilink and Thai Lion Air flights land at Don Mueang, which is handy for the north of Bangkok but not for same-day connections at Suvarnabhumi.

Rail Link, taxis and Grab from Suvarnabhumi

Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of the city and has three parallel runways. The Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain; Makkasan connects to the MRT Blue Line. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals. Some gates are in the SAT-1 satellite building, reached by an underground train.

Don Mueang, Bangkok's first airport, opened in 1914 and now handles around 31.7 million passengers a year. International flights use Terminal 1. The SRT Dark Red Line stops at the airport, and bus A4 runs to Khaosan Road and Sanam Luang for 50 baht.

Thai entry rules depend on nationality; see our Thailand visa page. Every foreign visitor fills in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing.

Free airport shuttle for Dhaka flights from Suvarnabhumi

The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). If you land at Don Mueang, Airports of Thailand runs a free shuttle bus to Suvarnabhumi for ticketed passengers; allow plenty of time for traffic.

There is no time difference, as both cities keep UTC+7.
