Monsoon flow

Near Sonarhat and Bichnakandi in Gowainghat, Sylhet, Kulumchhara is a border waterfall where a stream from the Meghalaya hills spills over boulders on the Bangladesh side. There is no fee, gate or set timetable, so come in daylight. One to two hours at the site is usually enough.
Kulumchhara Waterfall is a little-known border fall in Gowainghat upazila, Sylhet district, Bangladesh, near the Sonarhat border and not far from Bichnakandi. It suits travellers who have already seen Jaflong and Bichnakandi and want a quiet monsoon stream with few other visitors.
The fall lies in a village close to the Sonarhat border area. Its stream rises in the Khasi and Jaintia hills of Meghalaya in India, and only the lower section is on the Bangladesh side. Chhara is the local word for a hill stream. Bichnakandi, Panthumai and Lakkhonchhara are all a few kilometres away.
Visitors reach the last drop of a longer fall that begins in India: water sliding over a rock lip into a channel full of boulders brought down by the current. In the rainy season the water runs clear and cold and the hills behind turn deep green. In winter the flow can shrink to a trickle.
