How to apply for a Thailand visa, step by step
The application in the order the official process runs, with the time each step takes where the authorities state it.
- Create your e-Visa account Register with your email address on thaievisa.go.th and activate the account from the email it sends. Activation email within 30 minutes
- Fill in the application Choose the Tourist Visa (TR), single or multiple entry. Do not apply more than 3 months before you arrive. Up to 3 months before arrival
- Upload your documents JPG, JPEG or PDF files of up to 3 MB each. Check everything first: nothing can be added after "Accept & Confirm".
- Pay the fee in taka Through the Commercial Bank of Ceylon or EBL payment page, for the exact amount on the Payment Information Summary (PIS), then upload the PIS. 09:00–12:00 on embassy working days
- The embassy reviews your file The Royal Thai Embassy may ask for more documents or an interview. Unpaid or incomplete applications are deleted after 14 days. 7 working days
- Receive your e-Visa The e-Visa confirmation is sent to you by email.

- Fill in the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) at tdac.immigration.go.th within 3 days before you arrive; it is free and is not a visa
- A tourist visa allows a stay of up to 60 days per entry, which can be extended once by 30 days
Mistakes that delay or sink a Thailand application
As the Thailand authorities themselves warn applicants.
- Fake or doubtful documents: the embassy rejects or cancels the application
- Bank statements printed from online banking: they must be signed and issued by bank officials
- Paying a different amount from the PIS, or splitting the payment: it is rejected and not refunded
- A name that differs from the passport (initials, nicknames, missing parts): the embassy cannot edit personal details
- Mixing up 0 and O, 8 and B, or 5 and S in the passport number
- A one-way ticket, or hotel bookings that do not cover the whole stay
- A photo cropped from the passport or not on a white background
- Leaving an application unpaid or incomplete: it is deleted after 14 days
