Golden rock face
Sunlight on the mineral-rich rock behind the water gives it a golden colour.
Chakdhala Waterfall is a small hill-stream fall in Naikhongchhari, the southern part of Bandarban near Ramu and Cox's Bazar, reached on foot from Chakdhala village on the Myanmar frontier. Most visitors come from the Cox's Bazar side. Any entry fee is unconfirmed, and there is no gate or set hours, so go early and return before dark. Allow half a day from Naikhongchhari.
Chakdhala lies in Naikhongchhari upazila, the southern part of Bandarban district that borders Ramu and Cox's Bazar. The upazila covers about 464 square kilometres and is bounded by the Matamuhuri reserve forests, so most visitors approach from the Cox's Bazar side rather than from Bandarban town.
The village sits right on the frontier with Myanmar. The border here has seen tension since the conflict across the line intensified: in March 2024 members of Myanmar's border guard crossed into Bangladesh through the Chakdhala area, and residents have reported gunfire from the Myanmar side.
The fall itself is a modest drop on a forest stream beyond the village, with no facilities around it. The walk in, along village paths and through hill forest, is as much part of the trip as the water.
The usual route runs from Cox's Bazar to Ramu, then by local jeep or CNG to Naikhongchhari, and on to Chakdhala village, where the road ends and the walk begins. Buy water and food before leaving the bazar.
There is no ticket. Because of the border situation, check with the upazila administration or the local BGB post before going, carry national ID or a passport, and go with someone local. Late monsoon gives the best flow, and the trip fits into a day from Cox's Bazar if you leave early and are back on the road before dark.
Sunlight on the mineral-rich rock behind the water gives it a golden colour.
The first part of the walk passes through hill villages and over bamboo bridges.
Eat at the bazar hotels in Naikhongchhari or Ramu; there is nothing beyond Chakdhala Bazar.
