Patuartek is a quiet, stony beach on Marine Drive in Ukhiya, about 5 km past Inani and 35 km from Cox's Bazar town, where rocks and pebbles line the shore below green hills. The open shoreline is free at any hour, and it looks best at low tide in daylight, when the rocks are exposed. One to two hours makes a good stop on a Marine Drive day.
Patuartek Sea Beach is a rocky beach on Marine Drive in Ukhiya upazila, Cox's Bazar district, Bangladesh, about 5 km past Inani and 35 km from Cox's Bazar town. Its hills sit right behind the sand, and it suits travellers on a Marine Drive day who want a cleaner, quieter stop with rocks exposed at low tide.
The coastal hills come especially close to the sea here, so road, slope and beach all lie within a few hundred metres of each other. Himchari is about 20 km back toward town. There are no big resorts directly on the shore, which helps keep it quieter and cleaner than most Cox's Bazar beaches, and its blue water is often compared with St. Martin's.
The shoreline is strewn with rocks and pebbles of many sizes, and some stretches are covered in stones. They are most visible around low tide, so check the tide table before setting off. The stones are uneven and slick; sandals with grip help, and children need watching.
Painted sampans rest on the sand, and a small fish market forms on the beach when boats land their catch. Red crabs scuttle across the sand. Quad bikes and horse rides can be hired. In the monsoon the hills behind turn deep green.
