The Fari Islands Festival is a three-day programme of talks, chef-led dinners, art, wellness, music and reef trips shared by two neighbouring luxury resorts on a cluster of islands a short boat ride north of Malé. Its guest list has stretched from a film star to ocean scientists.
The idea is to give a resort stay the shape of a small festival weekend. Instead of each hotel running its own activities, the two share a single programme, and their guests meet in the marina village that sits between them.
It is a resort event, not a public one, and still very new. That makes it intimate: audiences are small, and the speakers and chefs stay on the same islands as everyone else.

What to pack for dinners and monsoon weather
The festival runs in the southwest monsoon, so pack for heat, wind and the odd downpour, as well as for dressier evenings.

Service charges and the cost of extras
Resorts in the Maldives price in US dollars and add a 10% service charge to nearly everything, so the extras of a festival weekend can add a lot to the final bill.
When you book, ask which festival sessions are included in your stay and which are paid separately; ask about chef dinners, spa treatments and private boat trips in particular. Ask for an itemised bill before checkout, and settle disputes at the front desk before you leave.
Following guides during snorkelling sessions
Guided snorkelling and marine trips fill part of the programme. Listen to the guide's briefing, stay with the group and follow instructions about currents to the letter.
Do not stand on or touch coral, keep fins well clear of the reef and give turtles and rays space. If you are not a confident swimmer, ask for a flotation vest; there is no prize for managing without one.

How to attend by staying at a host resort
There is no box office. For the 2026 edition nobody was selling single-day entry or separate tickets; joining in meant staying at one of the two host resorts: Patina Maldives or The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands. Before planning a trip around the festival, email both and ask how guests join the programme, which sessions need booking and whether any carry a separate charge.
The festival's five themes and what they include
The resorts' own labels for the five strands are 'nature amplified', 'culinary exploration', 'sonic immersion', 'body, mind and soul' and 'creative artistry'. In practice that means talks by well-known guests, an artist in residence, fitness and wellness sessions, live music and guided time on the reef with marine scientists, including a visiting National Geographic Explorer in 2026.
Food carries much of the weekend. Visiting and resident chefs host dinners and pop-ups, and the kitchens have plenty to draw on: Patina alone runs Brasa, an open-fire grill; KANDU, a modern take on Maldivian cooking; Wok Society; Farine, an Italian kitchen with house-made bread and pasta; and Fari Beach Club for local seafood, with produce from the island's own garden.
Art has deeper roots here than the festival itself. Patina's Fari Art Atelier welcomed Daniel Arsham as artist in residence in 2022, three years before the first festival. The festival now spreads that kind of cultural programme across both resorts, with the marina village as shared ground and the place where guests of the two hotels actually meet.

From Velana
International flights land at Velana International Airport on Hulhulé, next to Malé. Resort speedboats run north to the Fari Islands in about 45 minutes; ask the resort to schedule the transfer and check whether it is included.
Around the cluster
From the Ritz-Carlton a short scheduled ferry links its three islands with the marina; from Patina the village is the natural meeting point.
Before flying home
If you want to see Malé or a local island, ask the resort to arrange a boat and leave a generous margin.
Where to stay during the festival
There is no box office: in 2026, joining in meant staying at one of the two host resorts. Patina sits on its own 42-hectare island, with an art studio and a kids' club; the Ritz-Carlton spreads across three linked islands.
Reserve early. The festival fills one long weekend at two resorts with a limited number of villas, and the cheaper categories go first. Three nights covers the programme.
