What to expect

Starlux Airlines is a full-service Taiwanese airline founded in 2018 by Chang Kuo-wei, formerly chairman of EVA Air. It was founded on 2 May 2018, received its air operator certificate on 10 December 2019 and flew its first commercial service on 23 January 2020 with Chang himself as captain. It is listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (2646) and has grown quickly since, flying from its hub at Taoyuan International Airport, outside Taipei, with Taichung as a secondary focus city.

Two Thai airports from Taoyuan

Starlux's first Thai route was Taipei to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, where it competes directly with EVA Air and China Airlines. Fares from all airlines are on Bangkok to Taipei flights and Taipei to Bangkok flights.

Taipei to Chiang Mai opened in January 2024. Between mid-August and late October 2026, and again in late November, some flights use the larger A330-900 in place of the A321neo. See Chiang Mai to Taipei flights and Taipei to Chiang Mai flights.

Partners and the wider network

The airline is not in an alliance, though Chang confirmed in June 2024 that it was pursuing Oneworld membership and in September 2024 set a target of applying by the end of 2025. It codeshares with Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and Etihad Airways, and has interline deals with Air India, Finnair and Taiwan High Speed Rail, among others. Through Taoyuan, Starlux continues to Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia and North America, including Los Angeles, Seattle opened in August 2024, Ontario in June 2025 and Phoenix in January 2026; Busan followed in June 2026, Prague in August and Denpasar in October, while Penang was dropped in March 2025. Sydney and Auckland are planned for 2027.

Starlux has no Bangladesh route. Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways fly from Dhaka to Suvarnabhumi (see Dhaka to Bangkok flights), where Starlux departs for Taipei.

Fleet growth and results

In March 2019 Starlux ordered 17 Airbus A350s, the largest single Airbus purchase by a Taiwanese airline. The first A350-900 arrived in October 2022, and in February 2026 Starlux became the first Taiwanese carrier to fly the A350-1000. Ten A350F freighters are on order for delivery from 2028. The airline carried 4,902,048 passengers in 2025, up from 4,103,635 in 2024, on revenue of NT$44.05 billion and a net profit of NT$0.27 billion.
