Chiang Mai to Taipei flight guide
China Airlines, EVA Air, Starlux Airlines and Thai AirAsia fly nonstop from Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) in northern Thailand to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), Taipei's main airport. The 2,399 km flight takes about 3 hours 30 minutes. It serves Taiwanese visitors returning home and travellers using Taipei as a connection point to North America and North-East Asia.
China Airlines, EVA Air and Starlux are full-service airlines, so a checked bag and a meal are normally included. Thai AirAsia is a low-cost carrier that charges for checked bags, seat selection and meals, which makes the cheapest headline fare less cheap once you add a suitcase.
Starlux has been adding capacity. Flight JX752 leaves Chiang Mai at 17:20 and arrives in Taipei at 22:10. From 15 August to 24 October 2026, and again from 21 to 29 November 2026, Starlux swapped its Airbus A321neo for the larger A330-900neo on some flights, and it raises the route from three to five flights a week between 22 November 2026 and 20 January 2027. That widebody brings more seats at the busiest time of year.
Chiang Mai airport is just south-west of the old city. AOT, which runs Chiang Mai airport, lists flat-fare shuttle vans using Gate 12 of the international terminal: 40 baht on route A1 (Nimmanhaemin, Huay Kaew and the moat), 40 baht on route A2 (Mahidol Road, the Night Bazaar and Chang Khlan Road) and 60 baht on route A3 (Ring Road 2). The yellow and red lines of the Chiang Mai City Bus run from 06:00 to 23:30. Taxis and Grab take 15 to 20 minutes from most hotels. AOT advises arriving at least two hours before departure, more if you are checking in for a long connection beyond Taipei.
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is about 40 km west of Taipei. The Taoyuan Airport MRT express reaches Taipei Main Station in roughly 35 to 40 minutes. On the way home, Taoyuan Metro offers in-town check-in at A1 Taipei Main Station and A3 New Taipei Industrial Park, where you can check bags and collect a boarding pass before riding out to the airport. Taiwan's entry rules vary by passport, so check with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office that covers your country before you book.
Chiang Mai is busiest in its cool season, November to February, with warm days and evenings that can drop to about 10°C; that is also when Starlux adds flights. April is hot, up to about 40°C, and the rains run roughly from June to October.
Taiwan is one hour ahead of Thailand all year (UTC+8 against UTC+7). Travellers starting elsewhere in Asia usually reach Chiang Mai via Bangkok (see our Dhaka to Bangkok flights page for one example).
