What to expect

Vietravel Airlines is one of Vietnam's newest airlines. It was set up in February 2019 by the tour operator Vietravel, approved by the Prime Minister on 3 April 2020 and licensed on 29 October 2020. The first Airbus A321 arrived on 5 December 2020, the operator certificate followed on 24 December, and the maiden flight, Hanoi to Hue to Ho Chi Minh City, ran on 26 December 2020. Regular commercial operations date from 25 November 2021. It flies a handful of Airbus jets from Noi Bai in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City.

New owners and a coming name change

Since late 2024 the Hanoi-based conglomerate T&T Group has been its strategic shareholder, reportedly with up to 75% of the shares, and in November 2025 Vietravel agreed to sell its remaining stake, so a new brand name has been announced. Until it changes, flights are sold as Vietravel Airlines under the VU code. The head office moved from Hue to Hanoi early in 2026, and the airline was adding aircraft through the year, including a 230-seat A321 delivered in June.

Bangkok from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

Bangkok Suvarnabhumi is its only scheduled Thai destination, served from both Vietnamese bases. Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok has run daily since 26 October 2025; see Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok flights and Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh City flights. Hanoi to Bangkok restarted on 24 April 2026 with one flight a day, on a timetable announced in March 2026 that ran to 24 October 2026, so check that winter dates are on sale; see Hanoi to Bangkok flights and Bangkok to Hanoi flights.

Elsewhere, the airline runs domestic Vietnamese routes such as Hanoi to Buon Ma Thuot and Cam Ranh, added Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh on 1 February 2026, resumed Hanoi to Da Lat on 16 September and launched Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Hoa and Hai Phong on 2 October, opened Ho Chi Minh City to Shenzhen on 16 August 2026, and flies charters to Korea, Taiwan and China. It has no service to Bangladesh; flights from Dhaka (Dhaka to Bangkok flights) arrive at Suvarnabhumi, where the VU flights to Vietnam leave.

Practical points for booking Vietravel Airlines between Thailand and Vietnam.

  1. 01

  3. 03

    Stay at Suvarnabhumi

  4. 04

Compare fare types, not just prices
