Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok flight guide
Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok is a 716 km flight of about 1 hour 25 minutes from Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) to Bangkok, served nonstop by several airlines. It suits travellers linking southern Vietnam with Thailand, from weekend visitors to people starting a longer trip through Southeast Asia.
Multiple airlines run the route, and they split between Bangkok's two airports. Thai Airways International, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, Thai VietJet Air and Vietravel Airlines land at Suvarnabhumi (BKK); Thai AirAsia and Thai Lion Air use Don Mueang (DMK). Check the airport code on your ticket before you plan the ride into town.
Fares differ in what they include. Thai Airways and Vietnam Airlines sell full-service tickets with checked baggage. The low-cost carriers sell the seat and a cabin bag, then charge for checked luggage, seat selection and food. On a flight this short, a cheap headline fare plus a 20 kg bag can end up close to the full-service price, so compare the final total.
International flights use Terminal 2 at Tan Son Nhat, which sits right beside the domestic Terminal 1. The airport is only about 6 km from District 1, and Vietnam Airlines puts the car journey at 15 to 20 minutes outside the rush hours.
Two city buses serve the terminals. Route 109 runs from the international terminal to Ben Thanh Market between 5:30 am and 11 pm, roughly every 15 to 20 minutes, for 10,000 to 20,000 dong. Route 152 runs from the domestic side. A metered taxi from an official rank costs about 150,000 to 200,000 dong plus a small toll; walk past drivers who approach you inside the hall.
Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link reaches Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain there, and Makkasan station connects to the MRT Blue Line. Airports of Thailand also lists the S1 bus to Sanam Luang, near Khao San Road, from 6 am to 5 pm for 60 baht, and minibus 552 to On Nut on the BTS line. Metered taxis and Grab cars wait outside arrivals.
Don Mueang is north of the city. The SRT Dark Red Line stops at the airport and runs to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal (Bang Sue), where it meets the MRT Blue Line. Airport buses A1 to A4 leave from the first floor: A1 to Mo Chit bus terminal and A2 to Victory Monument cost 30 baht, while A3 to Pratunam and Lumpini Park and A4 to Khao San Road and Sanam Luang cost 50 baht.
Every non-Thai national, whatever the passport, must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before landing. The card replaced the paper TM6 form on 1 May 2025, can be submitted in the three days before arrival on tdac.immigration.go.th, and is an arrival record only, not a visa. Visa rules depend on nationality; see our Thailand visa page and confirm on the Thai e-Visa site.
If Bangkok is a stopover, the airport matters. Many long-haul and regional connections leave from Suvarnabhumi, including the flights listed on our Bangkok to Dhaka flights page. Landing at Don Mueang means collecting bags, crossing the city and checking in again; Airports of Thailand runs a free shuttle between the two airports from 5 am to midnight, but the road trip can take an hour or more, so leave a wide gap.
There is no time difference. Vietnam and Thailand both keep UTC+7 all year, so the departure and arrival times on your ticket are both local clock time and the flight time adds up exactly.
Vietnam's south is dry from about December to April, which is also Bangkok's cooler, busier season. Fares rise around Tet, the Vietnamese New Year, and Songkran in mid-April, when many residents of both cities travel.
