Bangkok to Hanoi flight guide
A number of airlines fly nonstop from Bangkok to Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) in Hanoi: Thai Airways International, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, Vietravel Airlines and Thai VietJet Air from Suvarnabhumi (BKK), and Thai AirAsia from Don Mueang (DMK). The 994 km flight takes about 1 hour 45 minutes. It is the quickest way from Thailand to Vietnam's capital, Halong Bay and the mountains of the north.
Thai Airways and Vietnam Airlines include checked bags and meals. Thai VietJet Air, VietJet Air, Vietravel Airlines and Thai AirAsia are low-cost and charge separately for luggage, food and seat choice. With several airlines, fares stay competitive outside Tet and the Thai holidays.
Suvarnabhumi is 27 minutes from Phaya Thai on the Airport Rail Link; some gates are in the SAT-1 concourse, a three-minute automated-train ride from the main terminal. For Don Mueang, the A1 and A2 airport buses from Mo Chit 2, BTS Chatuchak and Victory Monument cost 30 baht, and the SRT Red Line runs from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal.
Since 15 August 2023 citizens of every country can apply for a Vietnam e-visa. It is valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, and the official portal, evisa.gov.vn, lists fees of 25 US dollars for single entry and 50 for multiple. Allow three to five working days. Some nationalities enter visa-free; check before applying, and use only the government portal.
Noi Bai has two terminals: T1 for domestic flights and T2 for international. The airport authority puts it about 28 km from central Hanoi, 35 to 40 minutes by car outside the rush hour.
The cheapest way into town is bus route 86, which runs between Noi Bai and Hanoi Railway Station from 07:00 to 22:15 for 50,000 dong a trip. Check the final stop with the driver if you are heading for the Old Quarter. Taxis and Grab are quicker, especially with luggage, and a free shuttle links the two terminals for passengers connecting to domestic flights.
Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways land at Suvarnabhumi from Dhaka (see our Dhaka to Bangkok flights page). The Thai Airways, Thai VietJet Air, VietJet Air, Vietnam Airlines and Vietravel Airlines flights leave from that same airport; the Don Mueang flight means crossing Bangkok and checking in again, so leave at least four hours. On separate tickets, entering Thailand requires the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card.

Yes. Fly Dhaka to Bangkok on Biman, US-Bangla or Thai Airways, all of which land at Suvarnabhumi, then take one of the Hanoi flights. Booking both legs on one Thai Airways ticket, where available, keeps you airside with your bag checked through. Two separate tickets mean clearing Thai immigration, which needs a Thai visa.
What's included
It depends on the airline. Thai VietJet Air, VietJet Air, Vietravel Airlines and Thai AirAsia are low-cost carriers whose basic fares include only a cabin bag, so add checked baggage when you book. The full-service airlines normally include a checked bag; the allowance is shown on your booking.
Visa & documents
Citizens of all countries can apply for a Vietnam e-visa on evisa.gov.vn, valid up to 90 days; the portal lists 25 US dollars for single entry and 50 for multiple. Allow three to five working days. Some nationalities enter visa-free.
Stay & facilities
On the full-service airlines, request a Muslim (halal) meal when you book or at least 24 hours before departure through the airline's manage-booking page. On Thai VietJet Air, VietJet Air, Vietravel Airlines and Thai AirAsia, meals are bought online or on board; check the menu for halal options.
