In short

Multiple airlines fly nonstop from Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) in Hanoi to Bangkok: Thai Airways International, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, Vietravel Airlines and Thai VietJet Air into Suvarnabhumi (BKK), and Thai AirAsia into Don Mueang (DMK). The 994 km flight takes about 1 hour 45 minutes. With plenty of low-cost seats, Thailand is an easy add-on to a trip through northern Vietnam.

Room for Old Quarter souvenirs in your fare

Thai Airways and Vietnam Airlines include bags and meals. VietJet Air, Thai VietJet Air, Vietravel Airlines and Thai AirAsia charge for those extras. Travellers carrying souvenirs from Hanoi's Old Quarter markets should add a hold bag at booking.

Bus 86 or Grab to Noi Bai T2

International flights use Terminal T2. The airport is about 28 km from central Hanoi, 35 to 40 minutes by car outside the rush hour. Bus route 86 runs from Hanoi Railway Station to the airport between 07:00 and 22:15 for 50,000 dong. Taxis and Grab are quicker with luggage. Visitors on a Vietnamese e-visa must leave within the period it allows, up to 90 days.

TDAC before you leave Hanoi

Complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) on tdac.immigration.go.th before landing. It is free, opens three days before arrival and covers every non-Thai passenger.

Thailand's 30-day visa exemption, which replaced the 60-day scheme on 15 September 2026, covers 60 countries and territories. Vietnam was not named in the announcement, so Vietnamese passport holders should check the Thai e-Visa portal; other travellers can use our Thailand visa page to check their category.

Rail Link and Pattaya buses at Suvarnabhumi

Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link reaches Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain; Makkasan links to the MRT Blue Line. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals. Bus 389 runs to Pattaya from Exit 8 on the first floor between 10:00 and 18:00 for 130 baht.

From Don Mueang by A1, A2 or the Red Line

Don Mueang lies north of the city. The A1 bus runs via BTS Chatuchak to Mo Chit 2 from 06:50 to 23:59 and the A2 via Chatuchak to Victory Monument from 05:00 to 22:00, both for 30 baht from Gate 6 of the international terminal. The SRT Red Line runs to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, with scheduled trains from about 05:00 to 23:45.

Minibus 555 and the Dhaka departures

The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). If you land at Don Mueang, minibus 555 links the two airports between 06:30 and 20:00 for up to 60 baht; allow plenty of time.
