Akasa Air is an Indian low-cost airline based in Mumbai, flying since August 2022 with an all-economy Boeing 737 MAX fleet. It serves Indian cities, five Gulf destinations and Phuket, which it links with Mumbai and Bengaluru. There is no alliance. The cabin bag limit is 7 kg, and the Phuket route includes one 20 kg checked piece.
Akasa Air is one of India's newest airlines, running an all-737 MAX fleet from Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Akasa Air is an Indian low-cost airline based in Mumbai. The company was founded in December 2021 and flew its first commercial service on 7 August 2022, backed at launch by the late investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and led by chief executive Vinay Dube. It flies only Boeing 737 MAX jets and has its main bases at Mumbai and at Kempegowda International in Bengaluru.
Thailand was Akasa's first destination in Southeast Asia, and Phuket is its Thai airport. Two daily routes connect the island with India:
Its other international routes go to the Gulf: Doha, Kuwait City, Jeddah, Riyadh and Abu Dhabi. Inside India it serves more than twenty cities, announced operations at the new Navi Mumbai airport in November 2025, and has a codeshare with Etihad Airways that opens up connections through Abu Dhabi. On the Bengaluru route it competes with IndiGo and Thai VietJet Air, so it is worth comparing all three before booking.
The Phuket flights are built for travellers starting in India, and they suit anyone combining Mumbai or Bengaluru with a Thai beach stay. Visitors coming from elsewhere usually reach Phuket through Bangkok on a domestic Bangkok to Phuket flight (see also Dhaka to Bangkok).
Plans for the airline were announced in March 2021 by a team of former Jet Airways and Go First executives led by Vinay Dube, with Aditya Ghosh among the early backers. Investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala put in US$35 million for 40% in July 2021, a stake that later rose to about 46%; it is now held by his estate. India's civil aviation ministry gave its approval in October 2021, the DGCA issued the operator's certificate on 7 July 2022, and the first flight, Mumbai to Ahmedabad, followed on 7 August 2022 with two Boeing 737 MAX jets.
In August and September 2023 Akasa cancelled more than 700 flights after a group of pilots left for Air India Express, and the airline took legal action over the departures. Permission to fly abroad came in December 2023, and the first international flight, Mumbai to Doha, left on 28 March 2024. Kuwait, Jeddah, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Phuket and Hanoi followed. Akasa joined IATA on 8 January 2025, and by January 2026 it served 25 domestic and six international destinations. For the 2024-25 financial year it reported revenue of about ₹46.4 billion and a loss of about ₹19.8 billion.

The Thai route allows less than Akasa's Gulf routes. Buying extra kilos online usually beats paying at the Phuket counter.

New loyalty schemePhuket has a lower checked allowance than Akasa's Gulf routes. The airline lists one piece of 20 kg for Phuket, while other international flights allow up to 30 kg, so a traveller planning Thai shopping should prebook extra weight online.
