Dhaka to Mumbai flight guide
Both airlines fly nonstop from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka (DAC) to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai (BOM): Air India and IndiGo. The 1,888 km flight takes about 3 hours 30 minutes westbound, half an hour longer than the flight back, and carries hospital patients, business travellers and passengers connecting onward in India.
Both airlines fly Airbus A320-family jets on this route. Air India uses the A320neo and includes 25 kg of checked baggage. IndiGo, India's largest airline and a low-cost carrier, flies the A320neo or the larger A321neo and includes only 15 kg, so prepay extra weight online if you are packing for a long stay. Both allow 7 kg in the cabin.
Air India is a Star Alliance member, and Mumbai is one of its secondary hubs, which makes a through ticket to other Indian cities straightforward. IndiGo's own network from Mumbai is larger still, but the A320neo and A321neo cabins are all economy.
The route is published into BOM, where all international flights use Terminal 2 at Sahar, close to the western suburbs. Mumbai now has a second airport, Navi Mumbai International (NMI) at Ulwe, about 35 km away, which was preparing to add international flights during 2026. Recheck the arrival code a few days before you fly and before anyone sets off to meet you.
The underground Aqua Line metro (Line 3) has a station at Terminal 2 and runs south through the city to Cuffe Parade, calling at Churchgate and CSMT on the way. It is the simplest route to the old business district with light luggage. App cabs and prepaid taxis wait outside arrivals for everything else.
Most foreign nationals need an Indian visa issued before departure, either an e-Visa or a sticker visa depending on nationality and purpose, and a passport valid for at least six months. Check the categories open to your passport on the Government of India's official visa portal well ahead of travel.

General
Terminal 2 at Sahar, which handles all international flights at BOM as well as many domestic ones. Terminal 1 at Santacruz is a separate, older building that only takes domestic flights, mostly on low-cost airlines.
By road, a drive of about 15 to 20 minutes outside the airport, or by the Aqua Line metro, which has a station at each terminal. Leave a generous gap if your onward ticket is separate and departs from Terminal 1.
It has one called BluChip. IndiGo is a low-cost airline and India's largest by passengers, with a 64.2% share of the domestic market in August 2025, so points can add up quickly if you also fly inside India.
The Tata Group holds 74.9% and Singapore Airlines 25.1%. Tata took back control in 2022, and Vistara has since been merged into the airline.
Getting there
Yes. Line 3 runs underground for 33.5 km through 27 stations, from Aarey JVLR to Cuffe Parade, and since October 2025 it covers the whole route, including CSMT and Churchgate. It is the easiest way to the old city with light luggage.
Yes, since July 2014. You can collect miles in its Maharaja Club or with another Star Alliance programme you already belong to, as long as the fare earns miles.
No, Delhi is busier. Mumbai comes second in India and ranked 28th in the world by passenger numbers in 2025. Give whoever is meeting you some slack on timing, because arrivals can be slow at busy hours.
Booking
The code for Navi Mumbai International Airport at Ulwe, which opened for commercial flights on 25 December 2025. It is about 35 km from BOM, so a driver sent to the wrong airport faces a long trip across the region. Check the code on your booking.
Yes. Mumbai is one of Air India's secondary hubs, so it sells through tickets from Dhaka to many domestic destinations. Your bags are normally checked to the final stop, but ask at the Shahjalal counter to be sure.
Timing & weather
India Standard Time is UTC+5:30 and Dhaka is UTC+6:00, a half-hour gap that holds in every month. It is small, but it catches people out when booking appointments for the morning after arrival.
