What to expect

Thai VietJet Air is a Thai low-cost airline linked to Vietnam's VietJet. It was founded in November 2014, began flying in March 2015 and, unlike most of Bangkok's budget carriers, is based at Suvarnabhumi Airport rather than Don Mueang.

That matters for connections. Most long-haul and full-service flights into Bangkok land at Suvarnabhumi, so a Thai VietJet flight onward to Phuket, Chiang Mai or Krabi, or abroad to Vietnam, Japan or Korea, leaves from the same building with no trip across the city.

At home, the airline flies from Suvarnabhumi to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket, Krabi, Hat Yai, Surat Thani, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani and Nakhon Si Thammarat. Abroad, it serves Kolkata and Mumbai, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Phu Quoc, Phnom Penh, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Seoul, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka in Japan. Phuket has its own flights to Mumbai and Chiang Rai, and Chiang Mai to Osaka.

Who owns Thai VietJet Air?

Thai VietJet Air is an associate company of Vietnam's VietJet Air, which counts as its parent. It was founded and received Thailand's air operator's certificate in November 2014, and its first route was Suvarnabhumi to Phuket in March 2015. The head office is in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan, close to Suvarnabhumi, and the chief executive is Woranate Laprabang. Its ICAO code is TVJ. Besides Bangkok, it keeps a base at Taipei Taoyuan in Taiwan.
