Singapore Art Week guide
Collectors, gallery-goers and the simply curious can plan on Singapore Art Week from 21 to 31 January 2027, with Art SG at Marina Bay opening on the first day. There is no single venue or ticket: museums, late-opening galleries and artist-run spaces spread across the city, and some of the best work turns up in small rooms off the main programme.
Singapore Art Week is the point in the year when the city's whole art scene opens its doors at once. Museums launch their major shows, commercial galleries stay open late, artist-run spaces and private homes host exhibitions, and an international fair brings dealers and collectors from across Asia and beyond to Marina Bay.
There is no single venue and no single ticket. The week works more like a season, loosely held together by an official programme, and the best of it is often found in a small room on a side street. For anyone curious about contemporary art from Singapore and its neighbours, there is no better time to come.

Hotels near the venue fill up around the event dates.
Most of Art Week costs nothing. Gallery openings and talks are free and open to the public, though the fairs and some ticketed installations charge entry.
In 2026 the National Gallery's Light to Night was folded into Art Week and began well ahead of it.
The week and the fair's VIP vernissage start on the same day.
The fair needs most of a day; keep the rest of that weekend for gallery openings.
Gallery openings are public, often with an artist talk; the Civic District light works only make sense after dark.
The detailed programme goes online a few weeks before the opening.
The programme is spread across the whole island, and the mistake most first-timers make is trying to see everything on a list. Download the official Singapore Art Week map as soon as it is published and sort the events by district. Then give each part of the city its own day or evening: the museums of the Civic District, grouped around the Padang; Tanjong Pagar Distripark on Keppel Road; Gillman Barracks off Alexandra Road; and the Art SG fair at Marina Bay Sands. Independent spaces and pop-up shows fill in the gaps between them.
Our Singapore travel guide sets out the other neighbourhoods if you would rather stay somewhere quieter.
Singapore residents can spend SG Culture Pass credits at Art SG, which makes the fair cheaper for local visitors. Everyone else should check prices on the fair's site once the early-bird allocation runs out.
The National Arts Council runs Art Week with the Singapore Tourism Board, and its real subject is Southeast Asian contemporary art. That focus is written into the buildings it uses. National Gallery Singapore fills the former Supreme Court and City Hall, two colonial landmarks on the Padang, and opened as a gallery in 2015. Gillman Barracks, a set of conserved colonial army buildings among trees, became a contemporary art cluster in 2012. The Singapore Art Museum gave up its Bras Basah buildings and is not going back to them.
Around those institutions the week gathers commercial galleries, artist-run spaces and even private homes. The 2026 line-up gives a fair picture of the range: a show of 10 contemporary Filipino artists, an art and technology project called chapalang, a Rockbund Art Museum project from Shanghai presented by Art SG at The Warehouse Hotel on Robertson Quay, and David Hockney's Bigger & Closer at Gardens by the Bay.
For visitors that variety is the point. You can spend a morning with a national collection, an afternoon in a converted barracks block and an evening in someone's home, all within one week.
Singapore Changi Airport is about 24 km east of the centre. Direct flights include Dhaka to Singapore and Bangkok to Singapore; see our Singapore visa page for entry rules.
The MRT shuttle from between Terminals 2 and 3 runs to Tanah Merah every 6 to 9 minutes; change to a westbound East-West Line train for City Hall. From Terminal 4, take the free shuttle bus to the other terminals first.
City Hall serves the Civic District; Esplanade and Promenade on the Circle Line serve Marina Bay. Check the official map for Tanjong Pagar Distripark and Gillman Barracks and give each half a day.
Avoid taxis between districts; roads around the busiest galleries back up.
A base near City Hall or the Marina Bay stations keeps you close to the big museums and the fair.
Chinese New Year 2027 falls on 6 February, so flights and hotels in late January fill early. Book as soon as you decide to go.

January is the tail of Singapore's wetter monsoon season. Averages are a high of 30.6°C and a low of 24.3°C, with about 222 mm of rain over 13 days (NEA, 1991-2020 normals).
Expect short heavy showers; underground passages through CityLink Mall and Raffles City help on a wet evening.

The January 2027 week is the 15th. Each one has grown out of the same idea: a shared calendar that lets museums, galleries and independent spaces open their big shows at the same time.
Through the fair's own website, where early-bird tickets were on sale by October 2026. Singapore residents can also use SG Culture Pass credits there.
General
See the dates above: a VIP preview on the opening Thursday, then three public days at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.
The 2026 fair brought together more than 100 galleries from over 30 countries and territories, and it is the commercial anchor of the whole week.
At Tanjong Pagar Distripark, 39 Keppel Road, where it opened a contemporary art space in January 2022. Since 2010 the museum has concentrated on contemporary practice from Southeast Asia.
A contemporary art cluster set in conserved colonial barracks on Lock Road and Malan Road, near Alexandra Road. It opened as an arts hub in September 2012. It sits away from the centre, so give it a separate outing.
Yes. It is a selling fair, and the galleries bring work for collectors. Plenty of visitors come only to look, which is welcome; a public-day ticket is all you need.
In 2026 there was. The National Arts Council worked with the Land Transport Authority to turn several MRT stations into display spaces for the week.
More than 9,000 works of Singaporean and Southeast Asian art, from the 19th century to the present. It is the largest museum in the country.
No. Art SG is the international art fair, held over one long weekend at the start of the week. Singapore Art Week is the wider programme of museum shows, gallery openings, talks and public art around it.
