What to expect

Zipair Tokyo is the low-cost, long-range airline of the Japan Airlines group. Japan Airlines announced the plan on 14 May 2018 and founded the company on 31 July 2018. It started flying on 3 June 2020 with cargo-only services while borders were closed, and carried its first passengers on 16 October 2020. Yasuhiro Fukada is president and CEO. Everything runs from Narita International Airport, east of Tokyo, where the airline also has its head office.

Narita to Bangkok

Bangkok was the first destination on Zipair's map and remains its only Thai route: Tokyo Narita to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi. Zipair flies wide-body Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which is rare among Asian budget carriers, while meals and checked bags are paid extras. Every airline on the route is listed on Bangkok to Tokyo flights and Tokyo to Bangkok flights.

Onward across the Pacific

The network grew one city at a time: Honolulu on 19 December 2020, Singapore on 7 September 2021, Los Angeles on 25 December 2021, San Jose on 12 December 2022, San Francisco on 2 June 2023, Vancouver on 13 March 2024 and Houston on 4 March 2025. From Narita, Zipair crosses the Pacific to Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Houston and Vancouver, and serves Seoul Incheon and Singapore within Asia. Kuala Lumpur was scheduled to join the network on 20 October 2026, while Manila, opened on 1 July 2023, was dropped on 28 March 2026. For a traveller starting in Bangkok, that makes Narita a stepping stone to Hawaii or the North American west coast on one low-cost airline. The fleet is set to grow, with ten Boeing 787-9s due to be leased from JAL from the 2027 financial year. Six of the eight current 787-8s are also leased from JAL.

Zipair does not fly to Bangladesh. Biman Bangladesh Airlines restarted its Dhaka to Narita service in July 2026 after a year-long pause, initially once a week (see Dhaka to Tokyo flights). On other days, Dhaka to Bangkok connects with Zipair at Suvarnabhumi.
