Flying from Tokyo to Bangkok

In short

Several airlines fly nonstop from Tokyo's Narita (NRT) and Haneda (HND) airports to Bangkok. All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, Thai Airways International, Thai VietJet Air and Zipair Tokyo land at Suvarnabhumi (BKK), while Thai AirAsia, Thai AirAsia X and Thai Lion Air land at Don Mueang (DMK). The 4,649 km flight takes about 6 hours 20 minutes. Japanese holidaymakers, business travellers and people connecting on to South Asia all use it.

Narita terminals for ANA, JAL and the low-cost airlines

Narita lies about 60 km east of central Tokyo and handled about 42.3 million passengers in 2025. Check which terminal your airline uses: All Nippon Airways is in Terminal 1, Japan Airlines in Terminal 2, and low-cost airlines in Terminal 3. Zipair Tokyo is based at Narita. Haneda is much closer to the city, on the Keikyu line and the Tokyo Monorail, so a Haneda departure saves a long ride if you are staying in central or southern Tokyo.

Six hours in the air with or without bags and meals

All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines and Thai Airways International include a checked bag and a meal. Thai VietJet Air, Zipair Tokyo, Thai AirAsia, Thai AirAsia X and Thai Lion Air sell the seat alone, with bags and meals as extras. On a six-hour flight, the extras add up quickly, so compare totals.

Rail Link, Skytrain and the SAT-1 gates at Suvarnabhumi

Suvarnabhumi lies about 25 km east of central Bangkok. The Airport Rail Link runs to Phaya Thai in about 27 minutes and meets the BTS Skytrain; Makkasan connects to the MRT Blue Line. Some gates are in the SAT-1 satellite building, which opened in stages from 2023 and is linked to the main terminal by a three-minute underground train. Metered taxis and Grab wait outside arrivals.

Don Mueang, in the north of the city, is home to Thailand's low-cost airlines. International flights use Terminal 1. The SRT Dark Red Line stops there, and bus A1 runs to the BTS at Chatuchak for 30 baht.

Thai entry rules depend on nationality; see our Thailand visa page. Every foreign visitor completes the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing.

Dhaka flights from Suvarnabhumi and the two-hour time change

The Dhaka flights on Biman, US-Bangla and Thai Airways leave from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights). From Don Mueang, allow time to cross the city and check in again. Tokyo also has its own flights: see Tokyo to Dhaka flights.

Clocks go back two hours on landing in Thailand.
