Art Dubai guide
Art Dubai is usually held in March or April at Madinat Jumeirah, though the 2026 fair moved to May as a special edition. Galleries from the Middle East, South Asia, Africa and Europe show contemporary and modern work, and openings spread across the city during art week. It suits collectors and art lovers; plan for gallery visits too.
Art Dubai is the Gulf's leading international art fair, a spring gathering of galleries from the Middle East, South Asia, Africa and Europe on the canals of Madinat Jumeirah. It is where much of the region's contemporary and modern art is bought, sold and argued over, and where newcomers are spotted first.
Its pull reaches well beyond the booths. The fair sets the rhythm of a whole art week, with openings in galleries across Dubai, and its talks programme brings curators and artists into public debate. For a visitor with an interest in the region, it is the fastest way to see what artists from the Arab world and South Asia are making now.

April afternoons in Dubai can be properly hot, and the fair sits within a resort where you will be walking outdoors between halls, canal paths and the souk.
Think of Art Dubai as the centre of a week. The fair itself fills the public days at Madinat Jumeirah, but galleries across the city time their openings to coincide with it, especially in Alserkal Avenue and in DIFC. Keep at least one evening free for those, and two if contemporary art is the reason for the trip.
Buy your day ticket online before you go, and allow a half day at the very least. There are five sections, a talks programme and large installations outside the booths, and rushing them defeats the purpose. A second, shorter visit on another day is a good way to return to the work that stayed with you.
The most convenient beds are on site. Madinat Jumeirah has three hotels: Jumeirah Al Qasr with 294 rooms, Mina A'Salam with 292 and Al Naseem, the largest, with 430, plus the Dar Al Masyaf summer houses set around their own courtyards. Staying there means walking to the fair along the canals. Book as soon as the fair dates are fixed in your diary. Elsewhere, any hotel with an easy taxi run to Umm Suqeim will do.
Opening hours and ticket prices are published on the Art Dubai website nearer the date, so check them in the weeks before you travel.
April is later than the fair's traditional slot. For most of its life Art Dubai was a March event, and recent editions have moved between March and April. In 2026 the regular fair could not go ahead as planned; it moved to 14 to 17 May instead and ran as a smaller special edition, which still set a record of more than 25,000 visitors on its public days. This time the dates were fixed early, announced at the same moment galleries were invited to apply.
Each fair day mixes looking with listening. Talks, performances and guided tours run alongside the booths, and education workshops are scheduled through the week. Plan the morning for the halls, when you have energy for the booths, and leave the afternoon for a talk and a slower second pass. Evenings belong to the openings across town.
Founded in 2007, Art Dubai did much to turn the city into the art market's regional centre. It focuses on artists from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, and it is held under the patronage of the Ruler of Dubai. In 2025 more than 30,000 people came, nearly 100 of them museum and institutional delegations.
The fair is organised into five parts. Art Dubai Galleries, the main hall, gathers established dealers in contemporary and modern art. Zamaniyyat, led by Dr Sarah A. Rifky, revisits the 20th-century modernism of the region, building on the modern section first added in 2014. Bawwaba, under Amal Khalaf, gives emerging artists solo presentations and dates from 2019. Art Dubai Digital, organised by Nadine Khalil and Ulrich Schrauth since 2022, covers work made with new technology, and Art Dubai Extended, under Alexie Glass-Kantor, places large site-specific pieces outside the standard booths.
It is a commercial fair first, and some aisles feel like a shopping trip for collectors. The arguments happen elsewhere, in the curated sections and at the Global Art Forum. The forum bills itself as the biggest yearly gathering of its kind across the Middle East and Asia.
Dubai International Airport is about 30 minutes from Madinat Jumeirah by taxi when the roads are clear, longer at rush hour. Travelling on a Bangladeshi passport? See our UAE visa page; regional flights include Dhaka to Dubai and Bangkok to Dubai.
Give drivers the address the fair uses: Madinat Jumeirah, Al Sufouh 1, in Umm Suqeim, next to the Burj Al Arab.
Madinat Jumeirah is laced with 5.4 km of canals, and small abra water taxis link its hotels with Souk Madinat, the easy way between your room and the halls.
Alserkal Avenue occupies converted warehouses in Al Quoz, inland from the coast, and DIFC sits among the towers of the financial district. Both are a taxi ride from the fair, which beats driving and parking.
The hotels below are in Dubai itself, the nearest ones we list to Art Dubai. The next edition runs from 9 April to 11 April 2027. Book as soon as your dates are fixed, since rooms close to the festival are the first to go.

April in Dubai is warm and dry, before the real summer heat. The average high is about 34°C and the low about 22°C, with roughly 3 mm of rain on one or two days in the month (Dubai International Airport, 1991-2020 normals).
The halls are air-conditioned, so the contrast with the afternoon heat outside is sharp.
