In short

Jeju Air is a South Korean low-cost airline headquartered in Jeju City, with Incheon International as its main base plus Gimpo, Busan and Jeju. It flies to Thailand, Japan, China, Vietnam, the Philippines and Saipan, and is a founding member of the Value Alliance. Cabins are BIZ LITE and Economy; BASIC fares carry no checked bag, STANDARD 15 kg on most routes, BIZ LITE 30 kg.

Jeju Air is a Korean budget carrier owned mainly by the Aekyung Group, flying an all-Boeing 737 fleet.

What to expect

Jeju Air is a South Korean low-cost airline set up in January 2005 as a joint venture between the Aekyung Group and the provincial government of Jeju. Its first scheduled flight, Jeju to Seoul Gimpo, left in June 2006. The head office is still in Jeju City, and the airline runs bases at Seoul Incheon, Seoul Gimpo, Busan Gimhae and Jeju, with Aekyung as its largest shareholder.

Three Jeju Air routes link Korea with Thailand. From Incheon it flies to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi and to Chiang Mai, and from Busan it runs a second nonstop service to Suvarnabhumi. That makes Jeju Air one of the few ways to reach Korea's second city from Bangkok without changing in Seoul. The route pages for Bangkok to Seoul flights, Seoul to Bangkok flights, Chiang Mai to Seoul flights and Seoul to Chiang Mai flights compare it with the other carriers on each pair.

The wider network is almost entirely short and medium haul: a long list of Japanese cities from Sapporo to Naha, Chinese points such as Qingdao, Harbin and Yanji, Vietnam (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc and Da Lat), the Philippines, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Bali, Ulaanbaatar and Saipan.

Travellers combining Thailand and Korea can pick up Jeju Air at Suvarnabhumi for Seoul or Busan after arriving on another airline (for example on Dhaka to Bangkok). On two separate tickets you clear Thai immigration, collect your bag and check in again, so leave a generous gap and check Korea's entry rules for your passport before you buy.

Korea's first budget airline

Jeju Air received its licence on 25 August 2005 and took its first aircraft on 2 May 2006, a Dash 8-400 turboprop, before starting scheduled service on 5 June 2006. It was the first Korean low-cost airline to list on the Korea Exchange, in 2015, and in 2016 it co-founded Value Alliance, a grouping of eight Asia-Pacific budget carriers. In 2018 it carried 7.3 million international and 4.7 million domestic passengers, and it is the largest low-cost airline in Korea. Aekyung Group is the largest shareholder, and Jeju Air in turn holds the biggest stake in Aekyung's holding company, AK Holdings.

Cheap tickets

Practical ways to keep a Jeju Air trip between Thailand and Korea simple and affordable.

  1. 01

    Connect at Suvarnabhumi

Jeju Air departs Suvarnabhumi for Seoul and Busan. If you reach Bangkok on another airline, book the Korea leg only after the first flight is fixed, with several hours in between.

    Suvarnabhumi
  2. 02

    Skip Seoul for Busan

Heading to Busan, Ulsan or Gyeongju? The nonstop Bangkok to Busan flight saves the KTX ride or a domestic connection from Incheon.

    BKK to PUS
  3. 03

Choose the 737-800 for BIZ LITE

BIZ LITE exists only on the 737-800. If the booking screen shows a MAX 8, the premium row will not be there.

    12 seats only
  4. 04

    Read the bundle name

Search results can show the two side by side with a small price gap. Only STANDARD includes the 15 kg checked bag.

    BASIC vs STANDARD
  5. 05

Know the BASIC and STANDARD fares

In May 2025 Jeju Air renamed its FLY and FLYBAG fares to BASIC and STANDARD. BASIC carries no checked bag at all; STANDARD includes 15 kg on most international routes. If you are packing for a week in Seoul, the STANDARD fare is usually the one to compare.
