Flying from Seoul to Chiang Mai

In short

Korean Air, Jeju Air and Eastar Jet fly nonstop from Incheon International Airport (ICN) in Seoul to Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX) in northern Thailand. The 3,381 km flight takes about 4 hours 45 minutes. It is a favourite winter escape for Koreans and Air Busan adds a seasonal link from Busan.

What Korean Air includes that budget fares do not

Korean Air includes checked baggage and meals in its fares. Jeju Air, Eastar Jet and Air Busan are low-cost carriers whose basic fares cover only a cabin bag, with everything else sold as an extra, so compare totals before booking.

Air Busan's flights leave from Busan, not Seoul. From 25 October 2026, flight BX537 departs Busan at 19:00 and arrives in Chiang Mai at 22:40, on an Airbus A321, four times a week and six times a week from 15 December 2026 to 28 February 2027. Air Busan last flew the route in 2023. T'way Air also ran a daily Incheon to Chiang Mai service with a Boeing 737-800 from 10 December 2025 to 2 March 2026, so check which low-cost carriers are flying in your season.

Check Terminal 1 or 2 before heading to Incheon

Korean Air uses Terminal 2 and most other airlines Terminal 1. The two are far apart, so check your booking before taking the AREX train or a limousine bus to the airport. The AREX express from Seoul Station takes under an hour.

Evening landings at Chiang Mai immigration

Many flights from Korea land in the evening or late at night. Immigration is in the international hall; entry rules for Thailand depend on nationality, and every foreign visitor completes the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within 72 hours before landing (see our Thailand visa page). Thailand's visa-free tourist stay is now 30 days for 60 countries and territories, replacing the 60-day exemption that ended on 15 September 2026.

The airport is just south-west of the old city. AOT lists shuttle vans from Gate 12 of the international terminal at flat fares: 40 baht on route A1 to Nimmanhaemin, Huay Kaew and the moat, 40 baht on route A2 to Mahidol Road, the Night Bazaar and Chang Khlan Road, and 60 baht on route A3 to Ring Road 2. The yellow and red city bus lines stop at 23:30, so late arrivals should take a taxi or Grab, around 15 to 20 minutes to most hotels. Many hotels also offer airport pickup. Car rental desks are on the first floor.

Peak months for Korean visitors

November to February is Chiang Mai's cool, dry season, with warm days and evenings that can drop to about 10°C, and it is when most Korean visitors come; Air Busan raises its frequency for that period. April is hot, up to about 40°C, and the rainy season runs roughly from June to October.

Set your watch back two hours on landing (Korea is UTC+9, Thailand UTC+7). For onward trips, Chiang Mai has frequent domestic flights to Bangkok, where you can connect across Asia, for example to South Asia from Suvarnabhumi (see Bangkok to Dhaka flights).
