Keokradong is a summit of about 986 m in Ruma, Bandarban, close to the Myanmar border and one of Bangladesh's best-known trekking goals, often wrapped in cloud. Keokradong is a hill summit of about 986 metres in Ruma Upazila of Bandarban District, in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of south-eastern Bangladesh, close to the Myanmar border. It is one of the country's best-known trekking goals and suits fit walkers who can spend two or three days on foot with a local guide.
Keokradong stands at roughly 986 metres by handheld GPS, with a stated accuracy of 3 metres, while the Bangladesh Army signboard on the summit gives 967 metres (3,172 feet). SRTM satellite data puts its prominence at about 400 metres. Older books quoted 1,230 metres, a figure that later GPS work and Russian topographic maps have ruled out.
For years the peak was called the highest point in Bangladesh. Banglapedia now ranks it third in the south-east. Saka Haphong, measured by two trekking clubs at 3,461 and 3,488 feet, and Mowdok Mual, recorded at 1,064 metres by GPS in 2006, both stand higher. The summit lies near Thaikhong Para in Remacri Mouja.
The walk starts at Ruma Bazar, the upazila headquarters, and climbs on foot through high hill country to Boga Lake (also written Baga Lake), a natural lake where most groups spend a night. From there the path continues through Bawm and other hill villages and patches of forest before the last climb to the top. A small shelter and the army signboard mark the summit.
Clear mornings bring wide views over the ridges of the Hill Tracts, and on some days a sea of cloud fills the valleys below the peak.
