Chimbuk Hill is a hilltop viewpoint about 26 km from Bandarban town on the Thanchi road, at roughly 760 metres, known for views over the Chittagong Hill Tracts, morning clouds and nearby Mro villages.
Chimbuk Hill rises to roughly 760 m beside the Bandarban to Thanchi road, about 26 km from Bandarban town, one of the best-known high points in Bangladesh reachable by road. Mornings bring clouds over the Chittagong Hill Tracts, and Mro villages lie nearby. Entry is ticketed. One to two hours at the hilltop suits a stop on the way to Nilgiri or Thanchi.
Chimbuk Hill rises beside the Bandarban to Thanchi road in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of south-eastern Bangladesh, about 26 kilometres from Bandarban town. Its height is usually given as about 2,500 feet, or roughly 760 metres, which made it one of the best known high points in the country reachable by road.
The hill lies in land traditionally used by the Mro people, and small Mro villages with bamboo houses on stilts sit along the ridge and the road. The Bangladesh Army built and maintains the mountain road that climbs past Chimbuk, and a rest area with viewing platforms stands near the top.
From the summit the view stretches over ridge after ridge of forested hills, with the Sangu River valley below. In the rainy season and on cool winter mornings, clouds often settle in the valleys, so the hilltop seems to float above a white sea. On clear days the view reaches far toward the Myanmar border hills. The road beyond Chimbuk continues to Nilgiri and Thanchi, so many visitors stop here on the way to those places.
The drive itself is part of the visit. The road winds through hill forest and passes Shoilaprapat waterfall and Milonchori viewpoint before the climb to Chimbuk.
Most visitors hire a jeep, locally called a chander gari, from Bandarban town for a half-day or day trip. Foreign visitors may need to show passports at checkpoints and follow current rules for the hill district. The cooler months from November to February bring the clearest views.
