Risang Waterfall is a 100-foot fall in Sapmara village, Matiranga upazila, Khagrachhari district, Bangladesh, about 10 to 11 km from Khagrachhari town. It is one of the easiest hill falls in the region to reach and suits families and short-stay visitors who can manage about 235 steps.
The fall lies roughly a kilometre off the Khagrachhari to Dhaka road at Sapmara. The hills around are farmed by Marma and Tripura families with jhum plots and fruit orchards. Hire a CNG, chander gari or car from Khagrachhari town; Matiranga upazila headquarters is about 10 km away.
Risang is a Marma name, glossed as water flowing from a high place; another local name is Terang Teikalai. The fall is said to have come to wider notice around 1993 and 1994 through jhum cultivation, though this rests on a single source.
The water drops about 100 feet in total. The upper part falls freely, and the lower part runs down a broad, smooth, sloping rock into a shallow pool. Visitors often slide down this slope, but the stone is slippery and injuries happen; avoid it when the water is high.
From the road a hill path leads to a staircase of about 235 steps down to the fall. The climb back up is the hardest part, especially in heat, and the steps are slippery when wet.
