Addis Ababa to Dhaka flight guide
Flights from Addis Ababa to Dhaka run nonstop from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) on Ethiopian Airlines, the only carrier on the route. The Boeing 787-8 covers 5,712 km in about 7 hours 30 minutes. Most people on board start elsewhere and change planes in Addis, arriving from Ethiopian's services across Africa and from North America.
ET680 operates four times a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. It leaves Bole at 23:20 and lands in Dhaka at 09:50 the next morning, after the clocks move forward three hours. If you are connecting from elsewhere in Africa, check that your inbound flight lands with a sensible gap.
Ethiopian's allowance on this route is generous at 46 kg checked plus 7 kg in the cabin, which suits anyone bringing gifts home. If you are connecting at Bole, confirm at the first check-in that your bags are tagged all the way to DAC.
You land at Hazrat Shahjalal in Kurmitola, about 17 km north of central Dhaka. The raised expressway that runs from the airport to Farmgate skips much of the traffic on Airport Road, and Uttara, right next to the airport, has plenty of hotels if you arrive tired and want a bed close by.
Bangladeshi passport holders only need their passport. Other nationalities should sort out the Bangladesh visa before leaving home, because Ethiopian checks documents at Bole before boarding.
Dhaka's airport is changing. Hazrat Shahjalal's third terminal is scheduled for a soft opening on 16 December 2026; the civil aviation minister said in September 2026 that full operations will follow in March or April 2027. Until airlines move there, ET680 arrives at the existing international terminal.

Booking
Most Ethiopians use a local 12-hour clock that starts the day at dawn, so it runs six hours behind East Africa Time, the standard clock your booking is written in. When a driver or hotel quotes a time for the airport run, ask which system they mean.
Getting there
Three hours. Ethiopia keeps East Africa Time and Bangladesh its own standard time, and neither changes for summer. You lose those hours flying east, so the arrival time on the Dhaka clock is later than the flight length alone suggests; tell whoever is meeting you the local time.
Yes. Terminal 1 handles domestic services and Terminal 2 the international flights, including Dhaka. If you are flying in from elsewhere in Ethiopia to catch it, allow time to move between the two buildings and clear exit formalities.
Ethiopian calls its business class Cloud Nine and offers it on most of its flights; only the all-economy Dash 8 turboprops go without. On this route that means a small Cloud Nine cabin at the front of the Boeing 787-8, with economy behind. Check the seat map when booking to see the layout.
General
Your allowance is set by the whole ticket, not by the last leg, so a journey that starts in North America may carry a different allowance from the 46 kg quoted for Addis to Dhaka. Check the baggage line on your e-ticket, and make sure the cases are tagged to DAC at the first airport.
Report it at the baggage services desk in the arrivals hall before you pass customs, and keep the bag tag stub from your first check-in. Write down the reference number and give a Dhaka phone number and address so the airline can deliver the case when it turns up.
For a first night, yes. Uttara lies directly north of the airport, away from the city traffic to the south, so you avoid a cross-city drive when you are tired. Move to a central district later if your business or family is elsewhere in Dhaka.
Yes, on a separate domestic flight. Clear immigration and customs in Dhaka, take your 46 kg of luggage to the domestic terminal and check in again with Biman, US-Bangla or another domestic carrier. Be aware the domestic allowance is lower, so excess charges may apply.
Visa & documents
Airlines check documents before boarding, so arriving at the gate without the right visa or with a passport near expiry can mean being refused. Sort out the Bangladesh visa well before leaving home and confirm that your passport has at least six months left on it.
Timing & weather
Ask your taxi or ride-hailing driver to take the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, which starts at Kawla beside the airport and brings you down at Farmgate. It is a tolled road and skips most of the slow junctions on Airport Road, so expect the fare to include the toll.
