Kolkata to Dhaka flight guide
Flights from Kolkata to Dhaka connect Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) at Dum Dum with Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) in about an hour, a 239 km nonstop hop. IndiGo, US-Bangla Airlines and Biman Bangladesh Airlines fly it. Return bags are often heavy with shopping and medical files from Kolkata hospitals.
IndiGo's 6E1105 runs daily on an Airbus A320neo, leaving in the early or mid afternoon depending on the schedule period. US-Bangla's ATR 72-600 flies BS202 at 11:30 on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and lands in Dhaka at 13:00 local time, because Dhaka keeps its clocks thirty minutes ahead of Kolkata all year.
Weigh the shopping before you leave the hotel. US-Bangla allows 7 kg in the cabin and 20 kg in the hold, and IndiGo's checked allowance depends on the fare, from 15 kg to 30 kg on the stored listings.
Getting out to Dum Dum is easier than it was. The Yellow Line metro now ends at Jai Hind Bimanbandar station beneath the airport, with a change from the Blue Line at Noapara. From Park Street or Salt Lake in the evening rush the road can still be slow, so leave margin if you go by cab.
At Hazrat Shahjalal, connections to Chattogram or Sylhet leave from the domestic terminal next door, so allow time to collect your bag and walk across.
Arrivals at Dhaka may shift to the new third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal once it opens; the minister has given 16 December 2026 for a soft opening and March or April 2027 for full operations. For now the Kolkata flights use the existing international arrivals hall.

Getting there
Biman and US-Bangla both include 20 kg in the hold. IndiGo includes 15 kg, so its fare can end up dearer once excess weight is charged at the counter. The cabin limit is 7 kg on all of them, and the turboprops have small lockers, so pack the heavy items in the checked case.
Board the Blue Line heading north from Park Street or Esplanade and stay on until Noapara. Change there to the Yellow Line, whose last stop, Jai Hind Bimanbandar, opens into the airport. It avoids the evening jams on the roads toward Dum Dum, though it is awkward with several large suitcases.
The Dhaka Elevated Expressway starts near the airport and carries cars above Airport Road down to Farmgate. The open section runs 11.5 km from Kawla, beside the airport, and a taxi or ride-hailing car that takes the ramp skips the stop-start traffic below. Ask the driver to use it; the road is tolled.
Airport railway station is across the main road from the terminal, and trains to Chattogram, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Cumilla call there, so you need not cross the city to board. Buy tickets in advance through Bangladesh Railway's official channels, since seats on popular trains go early, especially before Eid.
Uttara lies just north of the airport, while the city proper is to the south, so a hotel in Uttara keeps the first drive short and avoids the traffic heading into Dhaka. Book ahead and ask the hotel whether it can send a car to the arrivals exit.
Timing & weather
Dhaka keeps its clocks thirty minutes ahead of Kolkata all year, with no daylight saving on either side. Add that half hour to the flight and you land roughly ninety minutes later by local time than your Indian departure, which matters if someone is collecting you at Shahjalal.
Visa & documents
Yes. Dhaka is your point of entry, so immigration, baggage reclaim and customs all happen in the international arrivals hall. Only after that do you take the bag over to the domestic building and check in again for the onward flight. A short connection is risky for that reason.
Health & safety
No. Keep prescriptions, scans and discharge papers in the cabin bag, together with any medicines in their original packs. A delayed suitcase is a minor problem with clothes, but losing test results can mean repeating them at home. Photograph the important pages as a backup.
Booking
The ATR 72-600 used by US-Bangla has 72 seats and Biman's Dash 8-400 has 74, all economy. IndiGo's A320neo is much larger at 186 seats. Fewer seats means the turboprop flights can fill quickly around holidays, so book early if you need one of them.
General
They are a common choice, sitting between the airport and the older parts of the city to the south. Choose a hotel near your meetings, because crossing Dhaka at rush hour can easily eat an hour, and ask whether the hotel runs an airport pick-up.
