Dhaka to Addis Ababa flight guide
Flights from Dhaka to Addis Ababa run nonstop from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) to Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) on Ethiopian Airlines, the only carrier on the route. The Boeing 787-8 covers 5,712 km in about 7 hours 30 minutes. Many passengers stay airside at Bole and continue into Africa on Ethiopian's network.
ET681 leaves Dhaka at 14:20 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays and lands in Addis at 18:50 local time, three hours behind Dhaka. If you are connecting, check the onward flight time before you book. Checked baggage is 46 kg, with 7 kg in the cabin.
If Addis itself is where you are going, the ride in is short. Bole International sits about 6 km southeast of the city centre, and the hotel districts of Bole and Kazanchis are close.
Expect the altitude. Addis Ababa stands at about 2,355 m, and the thinner air leaves some new arrivals short of breath on stairs for the first day or two. Pack a warm layer for the evenings, and an umbrella if you travel during the long rains, which run from June to mid-September.
Ethiopia issues e-visas online through its official portal, and an e-visa is only valid for entry through Bole. Apply before you fly, and check that your passport has at least six months left on it.
Departures from Dhaka may soon use a new building. Hazrat Shahjalal's third terminal is due for a soft opening on 16 December 2026, and the civil aviation minister expects full operations in March or April 2027. Check the terminal on your booking if you fly ET681 after that date.

Visa & documents
Up to 12 hours. Passengers of any nationality who arrive by air, remain in the transit area and fly out again within that window need no Ethiopian visa. A longer gap, or any wish to leave the terminal, means arranging an e-visa first.
In practice, yes. Bangladesh is not on Ethiopia's visa-on-arrival list, while the e-visa system, running since 12 June 2017, accepts tourist applications from every nationality. The approval is tied to arrival at Bole, so it suits this flight exactly.
Cancellations & changes
Yes. Terminal 2 handles international flights, including the one from Dhaka, and Terminal 1 handles domestic services. You will need to pass Ethiopian immigration before moving across, so a domestic connection requires a valid visa.
Ethiopian serves 65 destinations in Africa, more than any other airline, so most Bangladeshis heading to jobs or business on the continent can reach their city with a single connection at Bole. Book the whole journey on one ticket to keep your bags moving.
General
Ethiopian's programme is ShebaMiles, named after the Queen of Sheba, and the airline has been a Star Alliance member since December 2011. Miles from this route can therefore go to ShebaMiles or to another member's programme you already collect in.
Eventually. A new airport at Bishoftu is planned to replace Bole as the hub, with completion expected in 2030. Until then every Dhaka flight uses Bole.
Ethiopian's own Skylight Hotel sits about 1 km from the terminal and is the obvious choice for an overnight gap. To check in you must pass immigration, which for Bangladeshis means holding an e-visa, so apply before leaving Dhaka.
The expanded Terminal 2, opened on 27 January 2019, was designed for up to 22 million passengers a year. Bole handled about 12.1 million in 2024, well below that design figure.
Timing & weather
Ethiopia keeps UTC+3 all year, three hours behind Bangladesh. A flight of seven and a half hours therefore lands about four and a half hours after departure by the local clock, a useful sum when someone is meeting you.
Getting there
Yes. Anyone leaving Bangladesh for overseas work needs BMET registration, biometrics and the clearance smart card, wherever the job is. Officers at Shahjalal check it together with the passport and the destination country's visa.
