Flights from Sylhet to Dhaka connect Osmani International Airport (ZYL) with Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) in about 50 minutes, nonstop over 194 km. US-Bangla Airlines, Air Astra, Biman Bangladesh Airlines and NOVOAIR all fly it. Many passengers are British Bangladeshis for whom this hop is the first leg of the journey back to the UK.
US-Bangla has the widest spread, six daily ATR 72-600 departures from about 08:20 to 22:10. Air Astra leaves at 08:45, around 14:45 and in the evening. Biman's Dash 8-400 flies BG602 around midday and BG604 in the afternoon, with BG606 at 20:25 six days a week, and NOVOAIR flies at 15:10 and 17:50. That spread makes it easy to match a departure to an evening long-haul flight from Dhaka.
Biman's London and Manchester services from Sylhet start and finish in Dhaka, so check whether your international ticket already includes the Sylhet sector before booking a separate domestic seat. On one ticket, bags are checked through; on two, you collect and recheck them.
Connecting at Hazrat Shahjalal needs a generous gap. Domestic and international flights use separate terminals. Leave several hours if the two flights are on separate tickets.
Baggage is the other trap. All the airlines list 20 kg checked and 7 kg cabin on the domestic flight, so a larger long-haul allowance does not apply on a separate Sylhet ticket and the extra is charged at the counter.

Slightly. The Dash 8-400 has 74 seats, against 72 on the ATR 72-600 flown by US-Bangla and Air Astra and 68 on NOVOAIR's ATR 72-500. All of them are propeller aircraft with economy seating only, so the passenger experience on such a short sector is much the same.
Slightly more than seven hours on any of the four direct intercity services, which are Parabat Express, Joyontika, Upobon and Kalni Express. That makes the train a sensible choice when you have a day to spare, but not when you are heading for an international departure the same day.
Yes. A new terminal is under construction with six boarding bridges and 36 check-in counters, and it should lift annual capacity to 2 million passengers. The work is scheduled to finish by December 2027. Until it opens, passengers keep using the present terminal building.
