Flights from Chattogram to Dhaka run nonstop from Shah Amanat International Airport (CGP) at Patenga to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) in about 55 minutes. US-Bangla Airlines, Air Astra, NOVOAIR and Biman Bangladesh Airlines all fly the 229 km sector, which carries port and garment business travellers and families heading to the capital.
Flying out of Chattogram starts with the drive down to Patenga, where the airport sits on the Karnaphuli about 20 km from GEC Circle. Give that road the time it needs, because the flight itself is the easy part.
US-Bangla's ATR 72-600 leaves at 08:25 (BS102) and 11:05 (BS106) every day. Air Astra's 2A412 departs at 09:10, NOVOAIR flies daily at 14:40 with an extra 17:40 departure from Monday to Thursday, and Biman's Dash 8-400 operates BG148 on Monday mornings. The morning bank suits a working day in Dhaka; the late NOVOAIR flight is the one for a full day in Agrabad first.
All the airlines fly turboprops and include 20 kg of checked baggage with 7 kg in the cabin. Fares and timings vary more between them than the aircraft do, so compare before you book.
Flights land at Shahjalal's domestic terminal, a single-storey building apart from the international halls, so the walk from aircraft to kerb is short. The airport is in Kurmitola. Gulshan and Banani are the nearest business districts, while Motijheel and Old Dhaka mean a much longer drive south through the city. If you are connecting to an international flight, allow for the move between terminals and a fresh check-in on a separate ticket.
No passport is needed for Bangladeshi passengers on this domestic sector; a National ID card does. Visitors from abroad check in with their passport.

Getting there
Often not. Shah Amanat has its own overseas services: Air Arabia to Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, flydubai to Dubai, SalamAir to Muscat, and Biman and US-Bangla to several Gulf cities, with Biman also serving Jeddah and Medina. Check those before buying a domestic seat to catch a long-haul flight in the capital.
Around 18.5 km. The airport is at Patenga beside the Karnaphuli and the station is well to the north in the city, so anyone starting near the platforms should leave early for the flight.
The airport also handles international jets. Its single runway runs 2,940 m and can take aircraft up to a Boeing 747-400. On the domestic sector to Dhaka you will only see turboprops, which need a fraction of that length.
Yes. The tower at Shah Amanat is set back from the runway, so in heavy rain or fog the controllers may struggle to see aircraft moving on the airfield. Departures can be held until visibility improves. Leave a buffer in your plans during the monsoon and on misty winter mornings.
You can, but you will be switching buildings. Domestic arrivals use a separate low-rise terminal, and the international halls are elsewhere on the airport site. On one through ticket your bags travel with you; with separate bookings you collect them, change terminals and check in again, so allow several hours.
Air Astra and NOVOAIR. Both serve Chattogram purely for the Dhaka route, while Biman and US-Bangla mix domestic flying with services abroad. If you plan to continue overseas on the same airline, booking with one of those two keeps the whole trip on a single carrier.
General
Tuesday. On the other six days the train makes the trip in roughly 4 hours 55 minutes, calling only at Dhaka Airport station before it reaches Kamalapur. Getting off at the airport stop is a smart move if you live in Uttara or have a flight to catch.
The airlines publish the same economy allowance: 20 kg checked and 7 kg in the cabin. The cheapest promotional fares can come with less, so read the conditions before buying if you are flying home with a full suitcase.
Booking
Between 68 and 74. NOVOAIR's ATR 72-500 has the fewest, the ATR 72-600 flown by US-Bangla and Air Astra has 72, and Biman's Dash 8-400 is the largest with 74. With cabins this small, seats can go quickly when holiday demand peaks.
In April 2018 the government adopted Chattogram as the English spelling, closer to the Bengali name. Airlines, hotels and booking sites still use both forms, and the airport code CGP has not changed. Either spelling will find the same flights.
