Tokyo to Dhaka flight guide
Flights from Tokyo to Dhaka run nonstop from Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) on Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The 4,947 km westbound flight on a Boeing 787-9 takes about 8 hours. Bangladeshis living and studying in Japan make up most of the cabin, with Japanese business visitors heading to Dhaka.
Bangladeshis in Japan spent a year changing planes in Southeast Asia or the Gulf to get home. Since 27 July 2026 Biman has again flown the route without a stop.
BG377 leaves Narita at 14:00 on Mondays and Thursdays and lands in Dhaka at 18:00 local time, after the clocks go back three hours. Heading west into the winds takes longer: about 8 hours against roughly 6 hours 50 minutes the other way.
The 46 kg checked allowance leaves room for the electronics and gifts people bring back from Japan. Keep receipts for expensive items in your hand luggage, because customs at Shahjalal can ask about them.
Allow time to reach the airport. Narita is about 60 km from central Tokyo, and the Skyliner or the Narita Express is the dependable way out. From the suburbs to the west of the city, the airport limousine bus can be simpler.
Japanese and other foreign visitors need a Bangladesh visa sorted out before departure. Shahjalal is on the northern edge of Dhaka, and the hotels in Gulshan and Banani, the usual base for business trips, are a short ride away when traffic allows. An 18:00 arrival lands in the evening rush, so expect a slow drive.
Choose your train to Narita by where you start. The Keisei Skyliner leaves from Keisei Ueno and Nippori; the JR Narita Express runs from Shinjuku, Shibuya, Shinagawa and Tokyo Station. In Dhaka, Hazrat Shahjalal's third terminal is due for a soft opening on 16 December 2026 and full use around March or April 2027, so check where BG377 arrives if you fly after that date.

Getting there
Heading west, the aircraft flies into the strong westerly winds that sweep across Asia at cruising height, so its speed over the ground drops. Eastbound the same winds push it along. That is why this direction is timed at about 8 hours, more than an hour longer than Dhaka to Tokyo.
It works if you leave plenty of margin. A bus spares you from changing trains with heavy cases, but limousine buses are often slower than the trains because of traffic jams, so set off earlier than the timetable suggests. If time is tight, the Narita Express from Shinjuku or Shibuya is safer.
The JR Narita Express. It serves Shinjuku, Shibuya, Tokyo Station and Yokohama and runs through to the airport, so there is no change of train with your luggage. From Ueno or Nippori, the Keisei Skyliner is the better choice.
Yes, but not through a single airside transfer. You enter Bangladesh at Shahjalal, collect your 46 kg of luggage, go through customs and then walk to the domestic terminal for a fresh check-in. After a long flight it is often easier to take a domestic flight the next morning.
General
Yes. Coming from Keisei Ueno and Nippori, it calls first at Narita Airport Terminal 2·3 and ends at Terminal 1. Check which terminal your Biman flight leaves from before you board, so you know whether to get off at the first airport stop or stay on to the end.
Bangladesh runs three hours behind Japan throughout the year. You gain those hours on the way home, so the arrival time printed on your ticket looks far shorter than the real time in the air. Set your phone to Bangladesh time before landing to avoid confusion over pick-ups.
Both lie a short ride south of the airport. There is a taxi kiosk near the international arrivals exit, and many ride-hailing apps serve the terminal; agree the price before setting off in a taxi. Going further south, the tolled expressway from Kawla to Farmgate is quicker at busy times.
Visa & documents
It depends on the items and quantity. Personal items in normal amounts generally pass, but extra laptops, phones or large appliances can attract duty. Keep receipts in your hand luggage and use the red channel at Shahjalal if you are unsure, to avoid a fine.
Prices & payment
Yes. Since 7 January 2019, Japan has charged a departure tax to each passenger leaving by air or sea, regardless of nationality, so residents heading home to Bangladesh pay it too. Look at the tax breakdown on your ticket to see it listed.
Timing & weather
Airlines from Southeast Asian and Gulf hubs connect Narita and Dhaka with a single stop. They add hours and a change of aircraft, and the checked bag allowance may be lower than Biman's. Compare the total weight you are carrying before choosing a connection to save money.
